Can't wait to see this. The trailers look awesome and interesting comments are starting to come out (Guillermo Del Toro says that there is no reason for him to make "At the Mountains of Madness" after this!). I'm trying hard to avoid spoilers. My project this weekend is to watch the first two films with my kids to get them primed too.

Nid - take my advice: AVOID THE SPOILERS!!!!! I'm psyched for this film, but am a little bummed that I let my raddictive personality get the best of me and researched the hell out of this film. It's still going to be awesome, but it would be so much more so if I had not looked at the spoilers. Imagine going into Empire knowing that Darth is Luke's father? Still would have been a great movie, but without the shock and awe of that revelation. I envy your position right now vis-a-vis Prometheus. Preserve it until the movie comes out!!!!!

I think the existing spoilers out there are pure speculation at this point. RS is feeding us what he wants to feed us, which in turn creates more excitement for the film. what i've seen so far hasn't ruined anything for me because it's all so ambiguous

Blix - please share your impressions, and be honest. All these 'meh' reviews I'm reading on the nets have got me nervous....then again, the critics panned Bladerunner when it came out, so I don't know what to think.

I think the complaints are about the PLOT, but who goes to see this sort of movie for PLOT? It's a nice addition, but hardly paramount. The top critics are giving it good reviews. Ebert gave it four stars (out of four). Roeper gave it 5/5. It's, generally, the lesser known bros that aren't liking it.

I'm debating whether to see it at 12:50 a.m. or wait until tomorrow... It's 2 hours and 10 minutes...

Saw it this morning. Got invited to a free private screening by one of the tech firms I do business with, no complaints there

Overall, it was a good movie but I'm just not a sci fi kind of guy. I enjoyed it, had some great scenes and the 3D was killer. If you're in to these kind of movies, definitely the one to check out this year. I certainly wouldn't have stood in a long line to get in though, just not my cup of tea.

It looks great, but it sounds a lot like the plot to Alien to me.

Yeah, everyone in the critiquing business kind of makes me laugh. I remember when Bladerunner was released. I didn't have money to see it at cinema so I caught it much later on HBO. Even at the age of 19(1982) I knew Bladerunner was something different. Some kind of throwback to film noir. I just knew I liked the look of it and the whole scifi /gumshoe approach to it. And Sean Young with that 1940's hairdo. Um, where was I? The critics hated it. Now it is recognised as a real classic. I grabbed the four Dvd set a few years ago when it became available. They sold real well and if you go to Amazon you will find over 800 reviews. Nearly a five star rating for average. It is one of the few titles I feel a bit compelled to upgrade to Bluray.

To matters at hand. I will have to see Prometheus at the cinema. I think it will need the big screen to do it justice.

    Cheers, Todd

I enjoyed it a lot, beautiful cinematography. Indeed a few holes in the story and a few wtf? moments, but still worth seeing IMO.

Saw it last night. It is a good flick but not up to the Alien & Aliens level. I would describe it as "Alien-lite", meaning it's decent but, it never really gets you on the edge of your seat. Photography is beautiful, cast does a good job, parts of the plot are insuffiecently explained.

This is probably one that every fan of the Alien franchise should see once but, I don't know that I'll need to view it multiple times like I have Alien & Aliens.

    Overall, I'd give it a 7 out of 10.

I have set the bar high for it, which sometimes is not a good thing. I am dying to see it.
I am still dreaming. Still, am I?

    That's a pretty high bar.
my condolences... you will probably be disappointed...
[the above should lower the bar and let you enjoy the movie]

Tru dat. But I cannot seem to quell my excitement. And Roger Ebert is my go to guy for this genre (which is my favorite genre), and he gave it 4 stars. If you look at his web page along the right side, you can see a list of his reviews with the stars beside them. He is downright stingy with them stars.
