  1. Default Just finished first wet shave

So maybe I overanalyzed the video's and posts... but using the merkur 34c... i didn't apply any pressure and it took me a good 4 passes to get a close shave. I'd still consider the shave to be 'so-so'. I was able to get a good lather built using bigelow cream and used the merkur platinum blades that came with razor... maybe the blades just aren't sharp enough for my relatively thick folicles? I have a whole 100ct box of astra's to give a whirl. Fortunately no serious cuts.. a few minor nicks but wow did it feel amazing when the cold water splashed on my face after finishing... throw on some nivea w/ coq10 and felt pretty great. Now if I can just get a closer shave without having to pass 4X for mach3 quality.

Glad you had a decent shave. I'd definitely try many blades before making a 100ct investment. Most of us went through a dozen or more blades from all over the world before settling down on the 2-3 blades of choice.

Welcome to Badger and Blade. Congratulations on getting your first shave behind you! I would suggest that you stop trying to make 4 passes at the moment and concentrate on making just 2- WTG followed by XTG. This should give you a presentable shave without causing too many irritation problems. As your technique improves, so will your results and then when you are more comfortable with your gear, you can add another pass or two to shave even closer.
Concentrate on good prep and then blade angle and "no pressure" and you should continue to see good results.

Astras are my I-got-a-new-razor blades, i.e. they are consistent and sharp.

Don't worry, your shaves will get better and quicker and more natural quicker than you can imagine.

    Congrats on the first shave!

Advice? Don't go changing up too many things too many times early. Find a razor/soap/brush/blade combo and STICK TO IT!

Trust me, and with all due respect, your technique is the difference right now NOT the equipment.

Welcome, and congrats on that first shave. As with anything there is a bit of a learning curve, so don't try to rush things. Your technique will come along rather quickly, and the shaves will get better each time. So continue along, and enjoy the process.
