Default What Makes the TV Super Speed Different?

I'm looking for a Gillette Super Speed 1958 code D-2 if possible for my Dads upcoming birthday. The new BST changes have forced me to look to ebay instead of posting a WTB. There is a supposed D-2 TV Super Speed there that would be neat, but I don't see what the difference is between the standard SS. Can someone help me understand the difference, what to look for/ask so I don't waste my money?

And if by chance you have a nice SS date code D anything from '58 to offer please let me know!
    Thanks!

I believe the TV superspeed was made throughout '58. I've seen a rare E-1 with the TV handle. I also own a TV with a C-4 head. Those rare birds where plants used parts made from the previous years are out there. As far as the shave goes, I have not noticed any difference.

So, it looks to me like its a longer TTO knob without any flairing, am I seeing that right? I think the one I saw on eBay was a regular SS, but now I have an idea what to look for.

razor set was advertised on TV, Gillette was sponsor of "Friday Night Fights", from Madison Square Garden and "Gillette Cavalcade of Sports". The shows theme song was the "Look sharp-Be sharp March by Mahlon Merrick" . He would always chime in with Sharpie the Parrot, who would squawk, "Look Sharp, Feel Sharp, Be Sharp, with Gillette razor blades", before the fights were telecast.
This Gillette Super Speed is quite unique in its variant handle knurling, as it has no cross hatching lines to form squares in the handle'

    1954/z3 regulare SS

rare is the british TV Special, itīs the only rhodium plated Super-Speed.

Thanks alex, others, for the help and interesting backstory on the TV! I can see the difference now and I think the straight lines look much neater!

So is there any increased rarity or value to the TV over the regular SS? Just curious. I actually have two of them coming to be potential gifts. I got one in a trade with another great member, and snagged one on eBay that wasn't recognized as a TV for $11 shipped after making an offer and using some ebucks! So I'm curious if it's worth hanging onto the extra one.

    Thanks!

Mine looks just like the one in Alex first photo except it has a '2' where his has a 3. I've been shaving with it and it gives a very nice close shave. Possum

Can't say there is anything different, but it happens to be my best and nicest condition shaver of all my vintage Gillette's : )

Why can't you post a WTB?

There is a new automatically imposed limit of 14 days between posting anything in the BST section. I had a sale one week before this, which used to be the limit to posting sale threads. They upped that limit to 14 days and with the combining of the BST and WTB threads it doesn't care which you are trying to post. I'm not a fan. But, this thread has helped me get what I was looking for and, taught me something I didn't know! So I'm happy now!
