I used to be in the "I don't get flakes" crowd. They tasted like an ashtray and burned my tongue. After years of smoking aros and learning to slow down my puffing, I tried flakes again. The difference was amazing. Flakes have to be smoked slowly to get the flavor from them. I would suggest to those that are relatively new to pipes to not give up hope, put it in a jar and revisit them after some time. As your smoking technique improves, your tobaccos will improve with it.

Orlik's Strong Dark Kentucky Flakes is one of my favorite tobaccos period. Key to all pipesmoking: smoke slowly! The rewards will be tremendous if you follow this simple rule.

Astley's No. 109, Rattray Marlin Flake, Esoterica Stonehaven and Penzance- where would the tobacco world be without these brilliant blends?

    Just got my flakes:

Have yet to smoke any, but man talk about difference in tin notes! Blackwoods smells of apricots, tangy and ketchuppy. FVF smells like Japanese azuki bean, and SG chocolate flake smells of nothing but Latakia- I must be hyper sensitive to that smoky smell and it's not a favorite:(.

    Looking forward to lighting up!!

Most of my Va's are flake. Started with Dunhill and have not found any I don't like. Probably because I smoked full bodioed cigars for years. Give C and D Sunday Picnic or Opening Night a try.
