Do soaps "break in"?

I think that I agree that the more you use it the better the soap performs. I'll have bouts of Cella working like a boss and then I'll move back to T&H hard soap and the more I mix it up the more problems I seem to have. It's unfortunate that it seems we need to choose a few favorites and stick with them to keep our lather in good order.

Absolutely!! Soap gets better with age.. while it may seem to shrink, the only thing it is losing is water, the rest of it just keeps getting better and better with time.. this has been shown also thru the adventures of the shavers who have bought really old pucks of shave soap on ebay..

Yes they do, but iirc usually only with traditionally (made) saponified soaps, i.e. Lye soaps, since they continue to saponify (up to a certain point) and usually require an aging period after production to ensure a minimum level of quality.

In my short shaving journey I've used two soaps (MWF & Cella) and two croaps (RazoRock and Harris). The croaps lathered easily from day one, but it seems like the soaps get easier to lather as time goes on. I don't let my soaps dry (just put the lids back on when done). Does the extra moisture soften them a bit and make them easier to lather?

I thought my Arko got better but I think it just let the really in-your-face smell out a bit.

I've had a few pucks improve as I've gotten farther into the puck.
