Have not tried Eton College or Jermyn Street - but I find St. James to be strong, lasting, and manly.
Both St. James and Jermyn are modern aquatic scents...they are definitely masculine but not the kind of spicy, musky type smell you get from the Sandalwood. If you want something more on the spicy end, I would suggest Mr. Taylor. Between St. James and Jermyn, I prefer Jermyn because St. James has a sickly sweet note to it that gives me a headache.

Interesting. My interpretation of Mr. Taylor had been soapy/barber-shoppy. Taking another whiff and working up a quick lather, I can see where one would place this on the spicy/musky end, though. I know you didn't comment either way on the staying power of Mr. Taylor, but as another data point for the OP: I don't find it to be especially strong or long-lasting. Of the TOBS that I own (Avocado, Almond, Mr. Taylor, St. James), Mr. Taylor is my least favorite. Though naturally plenty of folks on here would take the same four and consider Mr. Taylor their favorite!
Grabbed a Tub of Mr Taylors as alot of people are saying its a manly barber shop smell, grabbed samples of the rest so i know what to get next :D

Out of all the ones I've sampled (Jermyn St, St James, Mr Taylor, Eton College, Sandalwood) my favorites are Jermyn St and St James. Definitely good to get the samples so you don't always wonder about the other ones in the back of your mind.
Yep cant get samples in my country so i got a heap from Conaught shaving imported :D
decent international shipping rates.

I just can't get to grips with cream. I normally use Taylors Sandalwood hard soap in their wooden bowl and a Parkers black Indian badger or U-Men bristle brush. If I am travelling and staying at a different hotel each night, as I do when doing classic car rallies, I don't think a brush is practical, as you are going to be putting it away wet. Sooner or later it will, at best go smelly or at worst, rot. In those circumstances, after a lot of experimentation, I have decided for me, Clarins Smooth Shave foaming gel is best. This is a very liquid gel and not like the gloopy stuff Gillette and others make. It has a very soft lubricating foam, is almost unscented and has a built in face conditioner. Not as good as using real soap and a brush but not a million miles off. The downside is that unless bought duty free, it is quite expensive. Watch out for fakes!
