Anyone here besides me like hats? I actually have several, summer & winter weights, but am trying to locate one similar to the one that my avatar is wearing. Can anyone id it?

I'm a fan of newsboys and driving caps. However, the longer my hair gets, the more difficult it becomes to wear them. As big as my head is, it's hard enough to find something that fits. Long, thick hair makes it darn near impossible.

That looks like a panama hat. I have one; they're nice and cool.

The only true & the best Panama Hats come from Montecristi Ecuador. They come in many different grades and since they are woven by hand, not cheap. The best last forever and I have several that I've had for decades. The hat I'm wearing in my avatar will change for the summer months.

The other option is the Cowboy Hat...granted it only works for some people and looks out of place in certain places, but I believe it's every bit as manly as a fedora.

Works well with jeans, slacks, sport coat

Be careful because you could going down another money-reducing path! Also, as someone who walks to work, I have begun to appreciate a nice fedora for protection when its raining, instead of an umbrella.

I've been wearing Fedoras for over 10 years now I believe (or close to it), since a trip to Germany, in a small village where I saw a bunch of really nice Fedoras in front of a small store, which I decided would make a great souvenir.

And I've never been without one since whenever weather permits.

    One of my older hats:

It was getting too small as I age... finally got a new one. The funny thing about my new one is that finding Fedoras in my town is near impossible, but I came across a hat store (mostly women) but they had a few for men... as I looked and was being disappointed as all they had were fairly cheap, wool felt, the lady mentioned that they had another that she believed was true fur felt and possibly my size in their stock room in he basement.

She returned with a box marked "Hollywood", and it was a certified Indiana Jones hat (in black). After years of people calling my hat an Indiana Jones' hat, I now have the real deal.

I love Goorin Brothers hats. I think they make one similar to what you're looking for. Search their "straw hat" selection.

I have a 5X Beaver Resistol "BullRider", also a Scala Outback, and a wool Fedora by Scala. I need a summer weight hat though. I love a hat. Hate a cap. And since I'm in a suit every day, I need one that will work with a suit. Right now I'm liking the one Turtle posted. I'm cheap! I know my avatar can afford whatever he wants, but I'm not my avatar.

Looking at the panamas got me interested enough to look at them on the web. I have a tweed trilby for winter but nothing for spring and summer. However, on one of the sites I checked care of the panama, and it said it was not to get wet/be worn in the rain because it would ruin the fiber! That kind of kills it for me since wearing it when it rains (to keep my head dry) would be a fairly high priority. Guess I will have to consider other options. Which would be what???

I'm like you John. If I can't wear it in the rain, I don't think I need a Panama. I need something that will keep the sun off my bare head, protect it from the rain, and not be as hot as wool or Beaver.
