    Default My First Restores

I finally got around to doing this, and although I believe there is plenty of room for improvement, I'm pretty pleased with the results.

The butterscotch and Lucite handles are both Klenzo, and the metal (aluminum?) is a Rubberset. All the knots are from The Golden Nib with a 20mm two-band Finest in the butterscotch, a 20mm Silvertip in the Lucite, and a 24mm two band Finest in the Rubberset. The rest of the (approximate) specs are:

    Butterscotch -- 50mm handle, 52mm loft, 102mm total height

    Lucite -- 50mm handle, 54mm loft, 104mm total height

    Rubberset -- 82mm handle, 52mm loft, 134mm total height

The Rubberset is (was) completely hollow inside, so I used some plastic spacers and epoxy to create a platform to mount the knot and to add some much needed weight.

    As I found them...

    After drilling and polishing...

    After the new knots...

Here's a post-bloom shot of the butterscotch -- it really did come out quite nice.

The biggest goof I think I made was being over zealous with the epoxy, but these knots sure as heck aren't coming out anytime soon.

Great job, especially with the black/clear handle. I've been having some trouble with mine - I tend to chip the black painted part. Did you re-paint prior to setting the knot? How did you go about removing the hair on that brush?

I think the black is actually a little cup that is set into the handle rather than paint. I was able to preserve the bottom portion, but some of the black on the sides did get removed. I repainted it and also used black epoxy when I set the knot.

As for removing the hair, I just drilled it out very carefully to not damage the bottom of the black cup.
