I thought I was imagining this but I'm not really happy with the Merkur HD. I first thought it was the blades and I've tried different ones. Secondly I thought it was maybe the prep before or maybe it was because of the SS or SC not agreeing with my skin. But among the SC & SS I have are great and have been used many times within the rotation I sort through. But for some odd reason when I use the HD, I always get a nick/weeper. When I use my CC 1904 or EJ BChrome I get nothing but BBS as my post shave results. Anyways, I hope you all have a great day!

    P.S. - Congrats BRuhling!

Great looking picture, absolutely love the look of the Semogue Shame you are not liking the Merkur.

Today was my first full straight shave! Two passes was about all I felt comfortable with, for a relatively CCS. At least no worse than what I get when I have to resort to disposables on the road. No major blood loss! Yay me!

Congrats on the first straight razor shave. It gets better and better with time. Glad you don't need extra blood.

Thank you very much Prof. Moriarty! Yeah I thought I would like it. But after doing the same routine of passes/technique with my Merkur 1904 & EJ BChrome, it doesn't work with the HD. You would think since its another Merkur model it would be alright be satisfyingly not. Its alright b/c I just love the 1904 over the HD. I would recommend it as a beginner's razor to anyone/everyone. Also that Semogue is one of my favorites. It will lather anything you throw at it :).

I think the new Proraso Red is a winning choice, just like the new Green. I posted a thread with a full review in the shaving cream forum a few weeks back. You can also find it looking in My Wiki beside my signature.

    I'M BACK, GENTLEMEN!!!

Hello all. Just wanted to let you all know that I now have everything sorted, and feel I can return safely to B&B. I have really missed you guys. I have had a few emails over the past 2 weeks-thanks to all who have taken the time to keep me informed of what's going on.
Anyhow, I have had a quick look around the SOTD for the past 2 weeks earlier this morning, and all I can say is that you haven't stopped posting those fabulous pics for which this forum is renowned! I will start posting pics from tomorrow, and can't wait to be part of this incredible group in the SOTD again. See you all tomorrow!!

One of B&B's finest members and a great friend for me is finally back! Welcome back, David!

Gents, I'd also like to inform you that for the month of May 2012 we will be running regular SOTD threads. The themed weeks will have a little suspension for the moment. Happy shaving and have fun!

In a way I have, Keith. Still not fully recovered from the virus I've had, and the past couple of days have been lousy. Feeling OK today though.
