    Default Peterson System bowl sizes?

Been checking the net to see if I can find an answer to which system numbers indicate a larger bowl. At first I thought a 317 would be larger than the 314 but then I read something on another forum that indicated I was wrong. Anyone know off the top of their heads?

I think Smokingpipes.com posts the chamber measurements.

any with the XL prefix will be generous but not oversize. XL03 is one I see often

    Thanks for the site.

If I were looking for a pipe that had a smoke duration of 45 minutes or greater what size and depth of bowl would be recommended?

Entirely new to the pipe thing so if 45 minutes is ridiculous please get a good laugh and then excuse my ignorance.

45 minutes is totally reasonable, but there will be a huge variance depending on how fast you smoke. I find nearly any pipe is at least a 45 minute investment for me, but I smoke at a leisurely pace. If you're looking specifically at Systems, the bowls are on the smallish side, and you're right it doesn't follow numerically. James' XL recommendation sounds like a good bet for you. Your best bet is to go big - you can always fill it short.

It really is all James' fault.

(Okay, maybe Owen had something to do with it as well.

It would also depend on the cut of the tobacco, I imagine.
