    Default Horrific morning with MWF

So I got up early this morning to make sure I had plenty of time to shave so I didn't look like I was homeless. I let the dog out, went into the bathroom and turned on my electric kettle while I brushed my teeth. When it got very warm but before it got hot I poured it over my puck of Fat. I soaked my brush in hot water, then climbed into the shower.

Upon emerging from the shower, my body a clean temple, I wrapped myself in a towel, a tapestry fit to adorn me, I turned to whipping up my lather. Normally this is not a problem. A little loading, a little hot water, presto-chango lather! But this time, no matter what I did, nothing worked. It would build nicely, then collapse like a flan in a cupboard. It was awful! Nothing worked! I reloaded my brush and tried making a new bowl, I added a bit more water, nothing would work. The lather simply would not build and thicken.

After slaving over it for almost fifteen minutes and growing more and more irritated I pulled Old Faithful out of the cabinet, AOS Sandalwood. Two minutes after pulling it out I had a bowl full of thick creamy lather that I could have floated a bottlecap on. By now I was pressed for time so I did a quick WTG pass and a careful ATG on my neck, cold washcloth, then ASB.

When I get home I'm going to dig my puck of MWF out of the bowl and grate it back in-- hopefully that will save it.

That's lame. I know what it's like to work 15 minutes trying to build lather that wont shave (stupid modern Williams)

Don't have those problems with a $2.00 stick of Arko. Matter of fact if your not careful, you can get caught in an Arko lather explosion.

Don't have problem with the FAT. Load easily within a minute (or two, if I want more lather).
    Thick and creamy...

Amongst reasonably priced soap - FAT is my no.1

Some days are like that, I've found. With the exception of one or two staples that will lather up just by looking at them, sometimes you just can't get a good lather with a product.

It's frustrating getting poor lather, knowing that the last time you used that product, and the next time as well, lather abounds like windbreaker fabric at WalMart. Just write it off as an off day, and be thankful you've got a backup to whip up a good shave.

True story. On the plus side I've been smelling sandalwood all day, so it could have been worse.

With all that distraction I hope you let the dog back in.

Sounds like perfectly regular MWF to me. (Which is one reason I don't use MWF.)

When I get home I'm going to dig my puck of MWF out of the bowl and grate it back in-- hopefully that will save it.
I doubt it; and if it does change anything it will be gone in the times you shave thereafter as a fresh surface layer will have formed. Grating in this case is in my opinion mostly psychological.

    This week for me:

Monday: first try with MWF (bad experience)
Tuesday: castle forbes lime (no explanation needed)
Wednesday: second bad experience with MWF

I need to watch the MWF mantic video again.

I made a video awhile back that might be of some help. I always face lather so it might be worth a shot for the people who can't seem to get the bowl to work.
FYI - that brush is dry until I put it under the sink and I don't soak the puck at all.

Speaking of temples, did you use a boar because they are not usually welcomed there.

I tried a boar first but it was just rubbish, then I thought that maybe the trafe wasn't welcome. Badger didn't work on the Fat either. I'm thinking (hoping) it was an off day.

My experience with teh Fat was schizophrenic. One day it would be awesomeness, on any other given day it was pure rubbish.

I need to get another puck and renew the fight.

I'm sorry but I just don't get how that happens. I bought a puck of MWF a few months ago after reading its, mostly, praises here. I've used everything from an inexpensive VdH boar to a nice Kent BK4 without any issues whatsoever. A damp brush, properly loaded, taken to a bowl with a little more water as needed makes incredible lather every time. Maybe your water was too hot.

Sounds like loading issues to me. That said, haven't tried MWF myself so I can't comment from first hand experience.

this is likely the answer. MWF doesn't like hot water.
