Default "sticky" strops how i fixed it...

i had 2 of my strops that had developed a "stickiness"... or a uneven draw over the length of the leather.... i tried a bit of neatsfoot oil and rubbing with my palm but they just weren't responding...

so a trip to tandy leather was in order.... i went through the entire wall and decided to give some saddle soap a try.... got a damp rag... soaped up the strops good and proper then wiped them clean with a damp rag.... then i repeated the process and left the soap on to dry..... tonight when i got home from work i took a clean dry towel and wiped em down....

talk about resurrection.... both my latigo and the 3" big daddy are like butter..... butter.......

if you have a dirty uneven draw strop give some plain ole saddle soap a shot....

    i am a believer...
a nice walk in the woods helps me relax and relieves tension....

the fact i'm dragging a shovel and a body should be irrelevant...

Great tip! A light wiping with denatured alcohol sometimes helps when you over oil a strop too. Wid got that nugget of wisdom from Scrupleworks.

Firefox users are experiencing that. They can click the bototm right of the box that pretty much say "Liesssssss, take me to the badgers anyways".

As for the soap, I am curious how much soaking the strops are going through. I pretty much turned by practice strop into a crispy chip somehow by trying to soak it and soften it/break it in (didn't want to do it to my real TM strop).

there is practically NO soaking...... you dampen the cloth and then rub it on the soap... the rag is not wet....... then you scrub the chit out of the surface of the leather..... then i wiped it off with another dry towel.... then i washed out the original rag and wrung it out completely and reapplied the soap and let it dry for a day.......

the leather is soft and supple and smooooth....
