I've wanted a Kanayama for a long time too Kent. Unfortunately it's just hard to bring myself to spend that much money on one.

Did you know the one I am agonizing is about $104.00us plus shipping? It's just reasonable enough to test my will .

I haven't been struck with strop AD in many a year. I use my vintage Sunasack 98% of the time, and a Hand American bridle leather occasionally as well. I mean, I hardly ever even venture here onto the strops subforums...

I'm not sure what came over me today. I started out by trying to bust Kentos' chops, since it's obvious he wants to buy a Kanayama....then I do a search for "Kanayama" and came across this thread: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthr...Kanayama-strop
So, I go looking at Aframestokyo, can't hurt, right?
Well, I sure wouldnt pony up >$150 for any strop, I just don't really care so much. But I do regret selling off my Kintaka. Way back then I didn't appreciate the low draw feel of shell horsehide (I didn't like full hollows way back in the day either...). Anyhow, they have that bad Momma on sale for just over a hunnert dollahs, so the next thing you know, yet another Paypal transaction was in the books...

    C'mon guys, join me!

All that money you save by using lapping films instead of expensive rocks can easily rationalize forking over $115 delivered for a fine, handcrafted Kanayama that someday your son, and then grandson will use with pride and fond thoughts, treasured as a family heirloom.

Not to mention that you'd get to use it for many years before those durn ungrateful, gold-diggin, good fer nuthin' whipper-snappers got their greedy lil mits on it! I may, in fact stipulate in my will to be buried with it.

Maybe so....but let me share a little wisdom with you that may be of some help:
    "Daddy, what does regret mean?
Well son, the funny thing about regret is,
It's better to regret something you have done,
Than to regret something you haven't done.

    Really.

What else are you going to spend that $115 on?

    New flip-flops?

    A warm winter coat?

    A vacation to Hawaii?

Sure, take your time, think it over...they probably still have dozens of those strops still in stock.

Or maybe there's only ONE left....

    Your ONE...

Have you actuallly thought about how you will feel knowing that your Kanayama strop will be hanging in someone else's shave den?

Probably some slob who'll be rubbing some damn Chinese razor monstrosity up and down that fine cordovan instead of a true kamisori, the way it Was Intended To Be.

Are you really going to let that guy use your strop to get his Gold Dollar, or perhaps even Pakistani razors ready? I mean, there really are some crazy bastards out there who would do such a thing!

I ran your OP through Babelfish, and got the following true translation:

The other appeal is that Kanayama strops are harder to get too.

Palm-stropping is free...and living leather is smoother then anything even a 100 yo Master can bring forth from a dead piece of skin..

What about living kangaroo leather? I've started keeping a bald kangaroo hopping around the house for this very purpose. I get funny looks from the neigbors, but it's not like my lifestyle hurts them...

Actually dead roo is what I use when I use a strop, either yours or Ken's with the glass backing.

Live Roo, huh... Wonder how they like 6 months of brutal winter?
Maybe I can keep it inside during the winter & have it in the yard in the summers...

Soaking it with neatsfoot oil, then rubbing mink oil into it. Laughing as their kid uses it as a swing, then the cat comes in to sharpen it's claws.....
    Tis merely a flesh wound.

    You have two choices:

    Buy one now.

Wait until I receive mine and I start posting artsy pics of that rich, smooth, luxurious leather juxtaposed with shiny steel, silvertip badger, etc., etc.

I'll probably have to post a vid of me using it too. Just to rub it in!
