  1. Default Puzzle

So I go back to DE shaving, from electrics and carts., about 6 months ago. I'm getting b.b.s. shaves from my R89 and Slim, regardless of the blade or the soap that I use. The other day I find my Dad's Schick Injector with a cartridge of Personna Platinum blades. This stuff hasn't been touched in 40 years, since he passed away. I slipped in a new blade and proceeded to face lather with Tabac, and get a b.b.s. shave. The next morning I go through the usual routine, but this time I'm using a combination of VDH and Williams that I grated up to fill my bowl. Another great shave! The difference is, with the injector razor my shave time is almost half of that when I use a DE. What's going on? I'm not complaining since, all the shaves are equally good, but how come I'm able to shave so much quicker with the injector razor? Do any of you guys use both types and find that one is quicker than the other?

These injector stories are making me curious. Is there anywhere to get new blades, or are you restricted to NOS?

you can get new blades for them, but not sure where.

the injectors and other single edge (SE) razors have a much thicker blade and for some reason i always get a closer shave with them. not sure about quicker, or why it would be faster, maybe you just felt more comfortable with the injector since it felt like a cart? gotta try everything out. i have used an injector a couple of times and always got great shaves, but i like the feel of my DEs and some of the SEs better. YMMV

I think the angles are more natural with an injector, it just kind of fits in your hand perfectly positioned to shave with.

You can find new blades online pretty easily, the Schick ones usually go $6/7 blades. Check Amazon.com, hocks.com, alice.com.
There are also EMS blades that come in 20-blade packs for about the same price, but I'm not a big fan personally.

The injector does give a fantastic shave, quick and clean. The natural angle, small head for reaching those hard to reach spots, and a stiff sharp blade similar to an SE all make for an aggressive yet comfortable shave. I enjoy using my injectors on occasion. I bought my blades from Connaught shaving in the UK.

Do the blades last considerably longer than a DE blade?

probably something about the nature of the SE (its thicker blade, the slanted head, the visual aspect of the long handle even) causing you to make longer strokes than with a DE. or its weight makes you move it faster, or something like that. grats on great shaves!

My experience is yes. I shaved with them for about 17 or 18 years. Second and third shaves are usually better than the first, they mellow a bit. I used to get at least a week out of a blade.

If there are any old mom & pop drugstores around, they normally have some of the schick injector blades.
