On the wrist this week: Fortis Millenium Starship Limited Edition Flieger Chrono in Valjoux 7750
Hi RPTheLefty,
I really enjoyed reading this thread and finally seeing your choice. It's lovely, enjoy it.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
Shoot, I forgot to ask for tips on shaving with it. Most of you know that this is only my second week of DE shaving. Which setting should I go with w/ Derby blades? The technique isn't quite there yet, I probably need another month to get it down right.
Wow! I wish I hadn't given into my impulsive nature, but I just ordered a Fatboy Tech which I'm expecting any moment - but may later wish I had explored this option for my sensitive, still newbie face. Oh well, I may love the Fatboy. Just how much research do addicts on this site engage in anyway??? Thanks for sharing all of your experience on this thread and elsewhere!
For future reference, can anyone tell me if there is an adjustable in this family of razors with a fat handle? And did I miss a comment to this effect?

Excellent choice for starter razor. I gave my son and my son- in-law Slims as starter razors and I still have 6. At one time I would change adjustments, but now just keep it on 5.
Wow. That's a beautiful razor. Use it in good health.
I agree with the others that you should probably start on 3 and keep it there for a month or so, and then experiment if you want to.

I'm three months into de shaving and picked up a Slim almost immediately. I really like the flexibility that it offers. I also have the EJ89L Barley and it is a great razor and will therefore always be part of my rotation. I would say, don't give it up on the EJ. Enjoy your Slim, it looks truly awesome, but get your EJ back and show it some love as well.

What do you guys tend to do with multiple razors? Are there any benefits of having more than one razor?Ireally want to keep my De89, but I don't see when I'd use it if I have another razor. Would the learning curve be different if I have two razors? Either way, I think I'll end up keepin my de89 and my Lord l6. I'm trying to figure out what role my de89 will play :)
It is just "fun" to "switch hit" with different razors, even if they are basically similar in performance.
Lately I have used a different razor every day of the week, taking about a 3 week swing through all of my "toys" before getting back to the one I used first.

I don't think you can go wrong with a slim adj. I have one that I used just this week.

I have 4 in my frequent rotation and 10 on an occasional basis. I think new traditional shavers should stick to one razor and two blades for six weeks, perfect technique, and then go for it. There are so many good razors to enjoy good shaves.

I wouldn't have recommended an adjustable if you are still refining your technique for the obvious reason...man's inability to leave well alone. Now you have one stick to one setting, enjoy.
