I've had good shaves from the 1904 using Gillette 7 O'Clock yellows and Astra SP, but it's also mild enough for the very sharp Feathers to work well in it for me.

    SOTD Wednesday June 20, 2012

Prep: Tepid Water Shower, Brush soaking in ice water.
    Razor: FaTip Grande
    Blade: Personna Super Platinum
    Brush: Flat-Top Badger Hair Brush
Soap: Gillette Fusion ProGlide (don't tase me bro)
    AS: Gillette Cool Wave
Post: Cold Water Rinse, Naturally Fresh Alum, Second Cold Water Rinse, Double Splash of Cool Wave

To paraphrase Gary (GDCarrington), "you have to work with what you have".

Well today I was officially out of my "real" shaving creams and soaps, so I had to use the Gillette Fusion ProGlide. I had purcahsed this goo months ago in case of an emergency, well today was an emergency, as I was out of everything.

I probably should not have attempted to build a lather in a bowl, as you can see, it does not look very good, it was airy, lots of bubbles and too wet.

It applied well enough, was extremely slick, but had little cushion. It performed enough to get the job done, so in the end that is all that matters.

I must say, I do love the smell of it, as it has a nice and clean scent that I find refreshing.

I wish that Gillette would make a tube cream with this scent similar to the Barbasol Non Aerosol Therapeutic Shave Cream instead of this blue goo.

Wow, Arley. Get yourself some lathering software ASAP.

    Nice razor, though.

I used the "poor-man's Joris" again this morning with an Astra SP (2) and had a nice two-pass plus touch-up shave. I lathered up some RR Artisan Boston Tea Party with my restored vintage butterscotch Klenzo brush. Nice.

By the way, as far as I can tell, the FaTip/Joris head has only one downfall, and it would not be evident to those of you who sport a VanDyke. It is more difficult to shave the area just under the nose with this razor than with any other razor I own. Even the Fatboy is a lot easier. Getting the right angle without scraping is really a test of dexterity. I'm still working on getting it down just right.

Aside from that, this is best razor I've ever used.

Being the cheap bastard that I am I won't even go to the store to purchase any real cream, as I have a delivery of TSD products scheduled for delivery tomorrow.

This stuff is slick, and I really do like the smell of it. Maybe tomorrow I will try to face lather with a boar brush instead of bowl lathering.

Then Friday I finally get to give the Sandalwood TSD Wheat Cream a spin. Supposedly JoAnna (Queen of Blades) based it on the old red tube Proraso.

Repeat after me "I will never run out of cream or soap again"

One of my go to cream is the C.0. Bigelow. Why?? It's a great cream (proraso).... And nearly everyone has a mall close to pick some up..... And with my last purchase it was buy two get one free.... PLUS I had a 20% off coupon, so I paid around $16 for THREE tubes! even for a cheap skate like you.... That is a great value!!!

I'm very curious about Joanna's creams..... They get great reviews across the pond....and the scents she can add is a incredible list. I hope you stocked up on her creams and soaps... Prices are cheap .... Even for you!! LOL

Arley let us know how you like the Sandalwood.I have the English Fern soap and splash on order plus a puck of ISZ and the ISZ wheat cream.JoAnna's splashes are top notch,no need for a balm afterwards, altho sometimes I mix some 444.The aftershave milks are very good too, nice and light for the summer.

*Good golly, Arley! How in the world do you run out of soap? i guess you have not developed that AD. Soaps are ubiquitous in every true shavers home. They seem to breed all on their own! You need to try some Mystic Water of Mike's Natural Soaps.

Randall.... Glad to hear all the Fatip love! I do sport a goatee... But, that being said... I keep a very thin moustache... Think Clark Gable thin... So I do shave under my nose..... My issue is I sometimes get bit by the tabs on the blade.... Not the razor itself ... And more so with the Fatip ... And those tabs on the nostrils hurt!

I still love my R 41 and my vintage razors, but the Fatip has become my go to razor.... I find the shaves effortless....and the stubble reduction is just short of crazy! I'm always amazed at how much stubble is reduced with one pass. I could do one pass and me more presentable than anyone that uses a cart.

I know, right?! I thought there are a few items that seem to simply "breed" in out dens.... Blades and soaps and creams!! heck... I should be the cheap one... I don't have a job, but yet I still bought some AoS sandal wood the other week because I was running low.... Not out! And I still had tubes of Bigelow, plus arko and VDH in the house......

    True dat.

It is very hard to imagine anybody on B&B running out of soaps and creams. I have a very modest collection compared with most, and I probably have enough to last me until at least the middle of next year. LOL.

My wife uses soaps and creams like they are a never ending supply. She used an entire tub of Bigelow and a bottle of KMF in less than a month!!!

Those look great!! Im so glad you picked up that Sheraton..... They are a great value... And if you are looking at a replate.. Hard to justify the cost of the senator ... Vargas had replated his Sheraton and impossible to tell the difference. Your only difference would be the end caps, as your year had the rivet end caps.

Just wanted to do a quick update on my learning curve. Despite my abject failure yesterday (botched neck/hairline job), I decided to get back on the horse this morning. As rec'd I put a yellow Gillette in the 1904. Prep was a shower, glycerin soap, and proraso. Soap was Col. Conks almond with a touch of KMF cool mint, and I used my new brush to better affect (pleasing lather, fluffy, slick). Post-shave was cold splash and Nivea sensitive skin balm (I know I need better balm, I will get some soon).

Thanks to the video's posted yesterday, I went with much shorter strokes. My shave was AWESOME!! No nicks. A tiny amount of burn on the left side of my neck (THE problem area since I started shaving as a kid and hopelessly scarred), but less than I would have gotten from my cartridge. No weeping. No cuts. And my mole is still there!

    Thanks everyone, woo-hoo!
