Folks, I've started my next blade test...

Blind test #7 - Med Prep vs Iridium Super

It's not using OCs (though I hope that will come for future tests), but it is a test of a couple of blades that are widely appreciated by the Brotherhood.

Arley will eventually leave the LOSER club, because he is going to migrate to straight razors. Maybe not now, maybe not next month, but sometime. And when he does, he's never coming back to either the BOTOC or the LOSER club.

    Trust me on this one.
LMAO at your Hans and Franz impersonation!!

Hmmm....I don't know...being his twin and all....I could see him buying a straight just for retro value and the shave den....but use??? I dont think so....too much work....he's much more of a computer geek than a hands on tools guy.... I think the honing and stropping, etc along with using a straight would be too much.....he enjoys too much time in the morning doing his coffee, cigarette and quick B&B browse to move to a straight.....

BUT I might be wrong.....been wrong before.....(like thinking my ex wife and I could work things out!!! LOL)

Blues work very nice in both the OC long, short, tech and my black tip SS. Derby is a little touchy. Sometimes it gives a good shave, and other times seems I have to push to get a good shave. derby blades will be used for trades down the road.
Frank, have you tried the Perma-Sharp Super. i find it a very nice blade comparable to the Yellow and they may work better for you.

LOL, you very well may be right, as I have been reading a lot on the straight forum, watching videos, and have been eyeballing a WWII German Officers straight. I am pretty sure my next razor will be a Dovo Shavette or something similar.

BUT the question is will you buy that simply as a Den piece, or will you shave with it and give up safety razors???

Sitting on my Lanai watching and listening to the thunderstorms and reading some of our many post it hit me....what are the qualities we all look for in open combs? Are we looking for more aggressive, is it visual...(Like in the case of Turtles new razor...stunning!)

If we were designing a OC razor...what qualities would you want it to have?? what type of head design....something new like the tradere? or maybe a hybrid of various OC's? Many of us seem to favor bull dog/mastiff type handles.....how heavy??

Just some thoughts.....in the future I would love to see a BOTOC designed razor made available for members....but I'm sure production cost would be HUGE...

If I get a straight, I'd shave with it, but I am sure that it will become a weekend only piece.

I wouldn't mind getting a straight....I've always enjoyed getting a straight razor shave from a barber....had a old school barber in Fort Myers...Dapper Dan's...great barber shop...that was also the head instructor at the barber school out there and his shaves were better than any straight shaves I've experienced.... I seen a Damascus steel razor that was simple gorgeous...but being a collector of swords, it appealed to me more on it's beauty and craftsmanship though than wanting to shave with it....
