Of course you can, I will have Ken send you off the membership stuff. The 11C counts, it is a great OC razor, although I sold mine as the head design is identical to all of the Model 41 heads, except for being a two piece head.

I still prefer my 1912 over any open comb, but I must admit, I got a GREAT shave this morning using one pass with the 1912 and two passes with the FaTip Piccolo loaded with a SuperMax Super Platinum.

I hope it's ok to ask this in here, somehow I totally missed this thread and all it's goodness. Slowly reading all and catching up.

Lately I have been getting a lot of love from my OC razors, inspired by my recent Joris purchase.
Last night I pulled this razor out for a spin, it had the handle on the right attached, halfway through the shave I switched to the CCB handle you see now. Wow, what a great razor!. I'm pretty sure the handle that I had on it wasn't the correct one either. Thing is, I have no idea what the head is, nor what handle it was manufactured with. Can you knowledgeable BOTOC folks enlighten me?

I have been having a love affair with my 1912 for the last week, but like I said, I do love my 11C; and I am on the search for an OCMM so i can stay SE and OC.

I have the OCMM and although I like it, it is by no means as fine as a shave as either the 11C or 1912. I personally would look out for a 1914 or Damaskeene before looking for a OCMM, but that is just from my own experience.

If you are looking for a fine OC that is not a lot of money, get a nice user grade NEW.

Ray that is a Goodwill. Post WWI Gillette. Mr Razor has some on his site, It had a ball end handle. Very nice shaver.

Thank you Mr. Bond. I'd looked on there for it but missed the one depicted with the slightly different cutouts than mine. Now that I think about it, it came in a lot with a NEW head and that common bar handle. Seems the cutouts were varied and short lived.

yes, it counts......we have to a 20 year back ground check and fingerprinting.

My morning combo: Replated Gillette Long Tooth Open Comb NEW head, BRW Improved handle, and an Astra SP blade. Just sitting here at my desk faceturbating. Baby's butts are coarse grit sandpaper compared to my face!

Have put all razors away except for the ones I have recently acquired so that I am forced to use them. Have had a Megress sitting here for almost 3 weeks that has not been used yet. It is going to get the nod for the better part of the week to come to see if I like it or not.

Too many razors not enough whiskers to go around....

So after shaving with my Merkur but the head still being closed, I decided to take everyone's advice and try an open comb.

I got the New bar handle (it's in the BST) and if anyone has any tips etc. please let me know. I'm going to try some more aggressive closed-combs before I jump into this one though, I am a little bit of a scaredy cat :)

Tried my OLD short comb today for the 1st time. Pretty nice shave. Slightly more aggressive than the NEW. I like the new better, but I'll hang onto the old and put it to good use.

it ok to love both, as long as 1 is a open comb

Forgot to mention that i am starting to see how intelligent the individuals at Gillette were when designing their razors. i just received a Weber handle and i tried putting it on a Gillette Old Type with a Gillette Yellow for a shave and had one of the most uncomfortable shaves with an OC. The Old Type has given me some of my best shaves to date! However, this combo did not work out well at all and i am realizing, as is Ken, that the light weight of most OC razors coupled with their original heads are the some of the best shavers, if not the best OC shavers! Consequently, no more tampering with OC unless it is the less aggressive one such as the News (for me anyway)! i will report back on how the New short-comb paired with the Weber shave, very soon.

Now I have the long comb as well as a short comb to see what the difference is. I will shave with the short comb tomorrow morning or just may let it go until Saturday morning and try a two day growth.

Is it really not that big of a deal? I've only used the Merkur 34C and 180 Long Handle. Then I tried the blue-tip SS, but it was milder than the Merkur! Didn't like it much.

I was thinking of trying out this 1941 Milord I found and flare-tip from Elderberry I believe, neither are collector pieces, I just thought maybe I should "move up" in aggressiveness, instead of jumping in. Do you think the OC's really do have an exaggeratedly aggressive view? If you think switching wouldn't be so hard I'll go for it, I just thought being pretty new and not having experience with any aggressive razors at all maybe I should try a flare-tip or something before jumping in to an OC, but I'm curious to hear what you think about that, I've definitely heard conflicting opinions.

I do believe that OCs have an exaggerated reputation for aggressiveness. I don't think a LC NEW is all that much more aggressive than, say, a Superspeed. The feel is slightly different, but it's not like you'll cut yourself to ribbons with it. You have to use solid technique with any razor.

If you are comfortable with a Merkur 34C, you should be able to jump right into a LC NEW. If you are still afraid of the 34C, and/or getting lots of cuts/nicks/weepers, you may want to wait until you are comfortable with it.

I can tell you for a fact that the LC was super smooth on my face. I would even say it was smoother on my face then the Black Tip SS that I was using on a daily basis until I went to the long comb.

That's the way it came to me and the razors came from two different places so they were not mixed up.
