I have been trying to get a close shave with straights for several months and have not mastered them yet. Just don't have the knack or bravery I guess.
Naw, the New is the only open comb I have tried. I bought it at a very fair price on B/S/T around the middle of Open Comb March. As far as providing a long-lasting shave, I have noticed that I achieve this best with my straights. With them, I don't have to worry if I'm in a hurry the next morning because I can make it to at least lunchtime the next day and still feel neat. I enjoy my shaves every day, and sometimes twice a day if I have to look neat at night with my safety razors. The safety razor is a bit more swift a shave for me than any straight at least for now; and I enjoy my straight shaves on the weekends when I can really take my time. The New gives me a shave that's the equivalent of my slim adjustable set on 7 or so. Two passes if I have the time, or even one pass if I'm in a hurry, does the trick. Maybe if I find a really fantastic deal on a newer razor, I might give one a try. But, I'm not holding my breath.

I think I'm attracted to vintage razors due to my frugality. I'm hesitant to spend a lot of dough just to shave.

+1!! the New would probably be my desert island razor... efficient, well designed and smooth effortless shaves for me. There are some cool modern razors, but something about the Vintage razors....

Very nice. I had an 11C HD and sold it just to reduce similar razors. I love my 1904 OC and will never get rid of it. I like to use it with both the stock handle and heavier handles. IMO one of the best and most under rated modern razors.

Guess this handle won't crack. Finally solved the problem or what to do with all those broken brass tubes from the old types....
This scares me a little too much to shave with it.

Personally I am not a fan of that handle, but I am sure there are others who may like I. It appears to be an old type frankenrazor.

Oddly, I was thinking the same thing when I saw the screw holes. Drawer pulls maybe?

Very plausible to what those could be, although I only noticed holes on one side.

Definitely a drawer pull. The holes are on one side because the screws are inserted from inside the drawer. A very creative idea but I'm not sure the results are that attractive.

I had a member here last week PM that link....thought the BOTOC could use this in our initiation rituals...LOL

That is a FUGLY razor! I would agree, some type of cabinet handle....the holes are threaded...the listing is pretty funny...."I have only seen a couple like this before and I bought all that I found..." LMAO!

Yeah, I've seen that on ebay.. possibly listed a couple of different times (or maybe just different copies of it). That is one ugly razor, IMO.

Well, that razor along with the goat and sack of onions is a great start for any ritual.

Anyone know whether BRW is in a hiatus of some kind--think I read something to that effect here. Owing to my new enthusiasm for OC razors, I'd like to move up from perfectly serviceable user grade NEW long comb to one of BRWs beautiful NEW head/handle combinations.

Looks like prospecting and patchin' in with the ominous Brotherhood ain't for OC posers.... lol

That's one stubby razor, gotta like the side holes, pound a couple nails in the wall and hang it up between shaves.

Yes, Bob is in the process of moving and will not begin making handles until the end of the month or early May.

So what are the prerequisites for membership and what form does the initiation take? I finally sprang for the silver pocket edition OC I had posted about the last couple of days. Some of you were most helpful in sorting out exactly what it was since seller had mislabeled it, so thank you very much. I have the razor, have not cleaned it, and thus have not tried it yet. So what's the deal, am I in? Or does this occur upon first use? Or is a much larger commitment required? I'm still working on razor technique with my 23C and this week with my new fat handle Tech. Am I ready to engage razor to sensitive skin????
