That will be a couple of fine looking LCs when you get them polished up. Be careful with the shiny one, the gold wash is thin on them. And you'll polish it off easily.

Ralph is away on Holiday for the extended weekend....so I didn't want to bother him.....something about going back to Scotland to finish what he started.....and thanks....he keeps eating all my cheddar and drinking scotch now......!!! He spent way to much time I think up there in Mississippi!

Give him Laphroaig. It's peaty enough for 10 goats.

Laphroaig is peaty enough to put goats on a hare's chest, or something like that.

I really enjoy a Glenmorangie myself, the Islay Whiskies like Laphroaig are too peaty for my tastes.

I'm with you!! I'm a Highlander myself! The Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban for a 12 yr old whisky is simply wonderful as is the Glenmorangie Sonnalta PX....another fine sherry wood aged single malt...

    Nectar!

Mother's milk for a highlander lad.

I didn't mind HIghland Park from Orkney, the distillery at Kirkwall was interesting, certainly not a bad quaffing whisky but not as good in my view as the Glenmorangie.

You will LOVE the NEW....that one is pretty minty!! the other should clean up nice!
Whoa, dude-- I thought I had to try 'em and agree that they are my preferred shave first?! (Seriously, what a great forum!)

And BTW, I think I have read much of this monster thread... saw the baking soda and aluminum foil for silver, the Maas and newspaper, the scrubbing bubbles and Dawn, etc. But I see only a few gold-tone razors pictured here, and no particular directions for cleaning. Was going to try washing with hot soap and water, then scrubbing bubbles, then Maas. Does that sound reasonable? Any other suggestions out there?

    Cheers!

Ah... that reminds me. Many here talk about replating. What source do you use for this service? How expen$ive? And does it lessen the value of an antique to destroy the patina?

    Cheers!

As stated by others, I'd recommend the 12c with the barber pole handle. I recently purchased one from a fellow board member and was taken aback by the size and weight since I'm used to smaller and lighter razors. I tried it yesterday and gives a very good shave but my neck doesn't seem to like Merkur heads. I guess I'll have to wait until I reach my 50 post minimum before I can put it up for sale on BST.

RaiserLeibe, gentle is the key when cleaning a gold razor. The plating is whisper thin. Clean it the way you proposed and you would say goodbye to the gold plating.
Just soap and water and a very soft toothbrush. Even scrubbing bubbles are sometimes too harsh. Use 70 percent rubbing alcohol to sanitize it after you have soaked it in dishwashing soap/water and gently scrubbed it with a soft toothbrush. No metal polishes, OK? In other words, as they say, "no Maas!"

    (see what I did there?)
