Default Second razor for a new guy...

So I've only had a handful of shaves so far, but I'm hooked. I'm enjoying the process of shaving much more and my neck isn't as broken out as it is with disposables...

    I've got a decent kit. It's an EJ DE89bl.

I'm using derby blades and I'm happy with them.

I followed the advice from here on the board about the EJ, so I want to ask for a second blade. suggestions?

    Thanks all!!

Thats a very nice kit, Excellent, no wonder your loving it, thats a veterans kit. Congrats and Welcome to the wonderful world of DE Shaving, hope to see you around more frequent :o)

Try some Astra SP blades with EJ there Awesome , sharp and smooth, Also try some feather blades, but be careful they are the sharpest ones on the market and work great with EJ89 .

Thanks..I just ordered a 30 pack of Astra superior platinum. What second shaver would anyone recommend? I'm not certain about the various "aggressiveness" of shavers yet. What's a similar shaver to what I have?

I would get a blade sampler pack.

For a second razor, you might want to take a look at the Weber (http://www.weberrazor.com). It's got a head similar to your DE89 but it slightly more aggressive. It's also the best deal you'll come across on a solid stainless steel razor.

I have the same razor and find Astra to be the best (YMMV). Crystals also work well with the EJ98

What you get depends on what you want, and whether you want vintage or modern for it...

If you want something to mow down a 3 day growth, look into a slant or open comb...

If you want a razor you can tweak, then a gilltte slim or merkur progress might suit you.

There are a lot of other options, it is all about what you want.

get yourself A gillette fatboy or merkur futur. something that is adjustable, should make your shaves enjoyable being able to change aggressiveness during the shave.

I have several vintage razor and use them in rotation. I will hopefully be getting Futur for my bday that is coming up. Right now I am using a New Nickel Open Comb from the 1930`s but will be using my gold Aristocrat in the next couple of days. I like Lord blades right now. I was using Derby blades but those irritated my skin a little but so far the lords have been giving me a great BBS shave. I could only go against the grain with a Mach 3 or even a DE for only one day but with the Lords I can shave ATG almost every day! I ordered a hundred pack last week. A blade sampler pack is the best way to go it is how I got my Lord blades along with a few others that I have to try still but I went through 5 blades before I got to the Lords.
