Default Simpson Rover LE - Test Lather and Initial Impressions

    Pics:

    1) Pre-bloom

    2) Test lather with E-Shave Avocado and Linden

    3) Bloom

    4) Post-bloom density shot

I know this brush has been covered to death on here but I thought I'd post my impressions and pics anyway. This is actually not the first test lather, but the second one. You can see the first in my Haslinger Coconut thread. Anyway, this is nice little brush. Size isn't much bigger than a Rooney 1/1 but like that brush it can hold a lot of lather if you want it to because it's pretty dense. Had a decent amount of chemically badger funk, more than my Tulip for sure. It also blooms a lot more than the Tulip's 2-band knot, but still feels pretty soft to the touch. Will update on face feel once I have a chance to use it. The brush lost about 5 hairs on these two test lathers...totally normal for a new brush.

Rover killed my SBAD. It's become my favorite brush for hard soaps like Harris and Tabac.

Rover is my favorite 3-band brush. It keeps getting better.

Used the brush for the first time today. No lost hairs on this lathering. Still smells a bit funky, but whipped up hard soap really nicely. Hair is soft but definitely has a bit of scritch to it that top grade Silvertip doesn't have. Not saying the hair is bad, but I think I prefer 2 band hair or regular top grade silvertip over the "Best" hair. Going to keep using the brush though, no plans to offload it or anything.

No post that includes pictures and comments about brushes is too many. I pretty much only use larger brushes but that is a sweet brush!

Update: I used the Rover again today...so far it has a few shaves and test lathers on it. For whatever reason, it felt softer today. Not sure if that was just the texture of the Nanny's soap that made it feel nice on my face or if the brush knot is beginning to open up more and feeling less scritchy. It felt very nice on the face today...BUT I still think I prefer higher grade hair.
