Default I give up on preshaves!!

I've tried everything from aos to castor oil to ski food... The only one that works is proraso but then my face gets numb and I cut myself!! So for the past week I didn't use any and bbs everyday of the week...same creams same razor same blade...no nicks cuts anything... Has anyone else seen this? Or preshave not worked for others?

Maybe you're just learning how to shave?

nope..I use DR Harris Arlington PreShave..gives me a warm tingly feeling..warms up the face a bit..let sit for 2-5 minutes...feels great before applying lather..NO more irritation ;-)

what razors do you use..sounds like proraso had menthol in it that could had made your face numb

The longer you shave, the less you might reach for the preshave oil IMO YMMV :)

Why did you start fiddling around with preshaves when you were already getting good shaves?

I was looking for a easier shave but alas my thin Asian hair doesn't agree with it... I found warm towel is enough for me... I guess this is one of theses YMMV moments

Lesson learned. You could probably keep searching around for razor/blade/AS combos that work for you, but I -- given that you were already getting great shaves before -- I say why bother?

I don't use any preshave oil/lotion/etc. Just a hot shower prior to shaving.

I tried pre shave oil (Shave Secret) when I first started DE shaving. Other than the menthol I didn't get any better shaves using it than I did without it. I just shower, lather and shave. YMMV

I gave up on most preshaves a while back. I only reach for the Proraso preshave maybe once or twice a month now, perhaps only because it's there and I think I should use it every now and then.

The best (and only) pre-shave necessary is a shower.

    Thanks,

I have, fairly thin facial hair, so don't need any preshave. I once tried oliveoil! :)

I agree that the best pre shave IMO is a hot shower and face washed with a good soap/cream...i.e. Musgo Real Glyce Lime a.k.a MR GLO...However, I too enjoy the use of a pre shave product...I use Proraso when I want that extra slickness and menthol kick with any of my soaps or creams. IMO it helps when I use more aggressive setups like MUHLE R41 with a new Feather blade.

As a general practice, I have never found it necessary or particularly enjoyable to use a pre shave product. In the summer however, I do find it refreshing to use Musgo Real Glyce Lime soap prior to shaving occasionally.

I bought two different types of preshave oils and never really used them. For some reason, and it could be my inexperience, I never used them.
