I have heard rumors that the mariner is the same head as the sabi razors....I'm sure NY shaving company purchases that razor from some source....curious if it is the same....

That Sabi's handle looks very well made.

I am quite pleased with my Mariner. Less touchy than the R41 but still very aggressive.

I am positive that they are coming from the same OEM source.

Why spend more money for a prettier designed logo and fancier box?

Mind you, the handle is different, but the Sabi T1 and T2 share the same head as the Mariner LH and SH, I actually like the Sabi handle better, while the T3 is identical in every way to the Stouty.

That was my question back in the R41 combined thread when this first came up...was who is making this for them....but agree....my "source" has informed me that it IS the same OEM that makes the Sabi along with other razors. I think they sell for $25...that handle looks awesome!

You can clearly see from the photographs that both the Mariner and the Sabi share the same construction and plating.

I am convinced they are the same as far as the head goes. The handle is MUCH nicer on the Sabi. See my review on the Sabi T2. The handle is a tank solid brass 72g nicely plated well worth the $25 alone but you also get a pretty nice head that is the same as the Mariner head. The real value in this razor is the handle though. Its the best current mass production handle I have seen and comes in 2 lengths. Just don't drop it on your toe. http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthr...-Mariner-razor

Good news: NYshaving accepts paypal payment.
Just email them for their paypal email.

PS: You might want to let them know that you'll be applying the discount code.

Oddly enough, I'm getting some incredible shaves out of the Mariner, a Dorco Platinum blade, and MWF.

I've been using mine for a month now, and thinking about a formal review. For me, it's been like dating a girl who's very nice and pleasant to be with, but just doesn't have that magic something that makes me fall head-over-heels in love. I like it very much, but still love my '41. It just doesn't have the edgy, exciting and even dangerous quality that attracts me and holds my fascination.

So in short without the review you would say R41>this?

How did you get the NYSC Mariner DLC coated? That looks gorgeous.

I'm still struggling for an answer.

The R41 is my all-time favorite. No doubt about that. It gives me the best shaves I can remember. So good, that a few days ago, I contemplated posting a thread titled: "I feel like a girl!" But I thought better of it and you haven't seen it, at least by me. My point was I had a shave with the R41 that might have been the best of my life. My face was as smooth as Sweetie's. A day later when I shaved I was fairly careless, resulting in detectable irritation that I know would make me reach for my backup--the Mariner, for a few days.

The Mariner is 95% as good as the R41, IMO, and never gives me any problem. The shaves are very nearly as good as the '41s. I used to use a 38C, but the Mariner definitely shaves closer.

That's it in a nutshell. The R41 shaves closest, but gives me occasional irritation.

The Mariner never irritates, but doesn't give me the closest shave. It's a tiny difference. So small that only I could ever tell.

In my post above, I was struggling with with whether the R41 or the Mariner was my personal favorite. The razor I frankly use as my day to day choice is shown here. I married my R41 GRANDE to my Mariner LH. Now introducing the Grand Mariner:

I find it very close in performance to the R41 and nearly mistake proof. It's nice looking, feels good in my hands and a pleasure to use with a favorite sharp, smooth blade (Perma-Sharp, Personna Med/Lab or Iridium Super).

My 2011 r41 with a Sabi T1 handle and Shark SC blade is my favorite shaver. The weighted handle is what did it.

The Sabi T2 is neck & neck with my Progress now.
