    Default SWMBO Moments

A few months ago when I started to research and "get into" propper wet shaving my wife thought it was a bit weird. She has had a lot of patience with me as I develop this...obsession...shall we call it? She has been more than accomidating. Yesterday I told her I wanted to buy $170 worth of products from bullgoose and she replied with "you deserve it, get whatever you need." I know right! She is prego with baby number two and wanted to bless me with something for being helpful around the house. She is pretty dope. She normally just looks at me funny and shakes her head when I am on this site and the others we all frequent for hours at a time. I guess she figures I could do worse things with my time and money. So how about it...any funny and awesome stories of our spouses and such regarding our hobby?

Wow, lucky man. There are many stories on this board. Be humble and quietly spend all of your money before tides change. Don't forget to pamper her.

Proceed with caution, sir. She may be having some sort of pregnancy hormone episode. You may want to get her a little something, as well. Or get something to help with her nest. I am always leery when there is no "push back".

She will probably show up with a new pair shoes tomorrow.

She probably already has the shoes and is doing this to justify them. Shoes, dress and purse, most likely. Remember, $170 x 4 = $680. That's a very common ratio.

Or a new boyfriend. Just kidding. Probably just a new car.

Mine is very supportive aswell. I shaved about twice a week before I started this, now I am clean shaven on a daily basis and my skin is in better condition than she ever saw before so does not complain as long as I keep it reasonably sensible.

Needless to say, I approve all shoe acquisitions.
Joris (not the razor). If you consider it as a hobby, you shave for free.

Congrats on having such an understanding wife, at least she goes along with you. Mine doesn't seem to care one way or the other, so I guess maybe I'm pretty lucky too.

I have been married for 27 years, I buy what I want, when I want. I never understand why so many guys are fearful of their wives. I could see if she was the bread winner, and you felt like you had to ask for her permission, but as long as your spending does not cause a burden of your day to day living, spend away.

My wife just looked at me as if it was another phase I was going through. She liked the results, so only jabbed a joke at me once in a while. Whe as a bit concerned when my son started shaving and I set him up with a DE. (he started with a Wishi and after about 3 shaves claimed my Fat Boy). Eventually she gave into my suggestions for her to try a DE. I think she did it just to get me to stop bugging her, after she tried one, she was pissed at me! It really was better than the disposables that she normally used and she really wanted to dislike the DE razors so she could tell me so…. She is happy with her blue Lady Gillette.

Ask her for assistance as you choose products. Ladies pay attention to scents, and might enjoy deciding how you'll smell after a shave. Mine enjoys voting on soaps and ASB based on scent. It makes her a partner in the game.

Next time she wants to shave her legs (or asks you to help - pregnancy can be a bitch that way) offer to make her a lather with your brush and soap.

I did that for my wife, and now she owns a DE razor. :)

About the most interesting bit for me, aside from getting her interested, is that I showed her a picture of a scuttle. She's a potter, and has now made 3 completed scuttles with more in the pipeline, and will probably start selling them shortly. She also has plans for lather bowls, soap bowl/boxes and some other stuff. She really ran with it.

That's the crux for me. My wife is a SAHM, and because she's the one available during the day she manages most of the bills, shopping, etc. She's also better at organization than I do. When I ask about shaving stuff it isn't for permission. It's because she's the one that knows if spending an unscheduled X number of dollars is going to cause the rest of the family heart burn. :)

The SAHM part is good....we need more of them, mine is a SAHW, but man, that is tough one with the wife running the budget. But of course you never want to cause your family financial grief over a hobby.

The only thing my wife ever got really bent out of shape on was me buying a car without her knowing about it. That is when you buy them a few extra pair of shoes, some candy and flowers, then say the I'm sorry mantra: "Yes dear, you are right, I was wrong for not talking to you about insert whatever you have done here".

It has worked for me for 27 years...and man, have I pulled some doozies over the years.

You guys are so funny. I am actually trying to get her to try a DE. She has very sensitive skin and I think it would help her a lot. So, some of your ladies have tried and do?

I do the same. It's just sound people management. Those you involve walk away feeling some ownership in the process and will be much less likely to squawk about buying more products then you could ever possibly use . Besides, I'm genuinely interested in my wife's opinions when it comes to various scents. Always good to know how other people are perceiving it.

Yes indeed, because at some point, especially when she starts getting bigger and it is summer, she may start cursing your name- do it now

My wife is the same way so long as all quilting and sewing purchases are approved.
