Default Looking for my first nice pen

    hey guys,

I graduated college last may and have been promoted within my company into the area I went to school for. Im now looking for a nice pen to go along with my Padfolilo.

It may be blasphemy, but I don't think fountain pens are for me. I instead would like a rollerball.

I would like to stay on the less expensive side of things, but it must still have some visual appeal.

    Thanks for your input guys,

    Thanks for your input guys,
Visual appeal? How about a Waterman Carene...

Hard to get more visual then that. They do come in a roller ball, pall point, and fountain verity. Here is my fountain to give you an idea of what they look like

While that is a beautiful pen and I do appreciate you taking the time to guide me in the right direction, it is far outside my pricerang.

Check out the rollerballs at Levenger.com. I like their True Writer fountain pens and they come as rollerballs too. But if you can swing it, I'd suggest a Visconti Eco Roller.

I won't suggest a pen since it's something that's very subjective. I will, however, offer my congratulations on your graduation and subsequent promotion!

    Cheers!

    Thanks for your input guys,
First off, congratulations on your graduation and even moreso on your promotion to your field!

Second, May I suggest Retro 51 as filling your bill? Executive Essentials has a wide selection of Retro 51 rollerball pens available. I personally own both a "regular" Tornado and a Big Shot in titanium and rose gold. In fact, I had to replace my Ti pen because SWMBO confiscated the first one. :) Retro 51 has good pens at very reasonable prices, IMO.

Fahrney's Pens also has a selection of Retro 51 for comparison's sake.

I like the lacquer covered brass barrel models because of the heft and presence in your hand. The Hemisphere is their entry level pen model and has a plastic barrel. Don't get me wrong it is a good pen, it just does not pass that threshold into a great pen.

I am a firm believer in getting a quality product, even if you pay a little more than you thought you would need to. That way you are done searching. If you get an OK item you will soon be looking for a replacement then in the long run you will end up paying more and end up with two items than if you just ponied up and went with the quality item initially.

Some of the vintage waterman pens can be found at reasonable prices if you would consider a pre-owned pen. The waterman Man 100 and 200 are extraordinary pens as is the Gentleman and others that are no longer produced.

Try to find a lacquered brass barrel pen and you will have yourself a nice writing instrument. Since you are looking for a roller ball the actual pen is not as important as it would be if you were looking for a fountain pen which has the writing point as part of the pen itself

Hey, there is nothing wrong with enjoying a good rollerball pen. I have had quite a few nice ones over the years.

I will offer this just because it is what i am looking at picking up in the next week or so. not too expensive (which is good, because i have spent far too much on pens and related things this past week or so) and i like the style.

A god pen will last, do think of it as an investment. And since most of us here suffer from various acquisition dissorders, I'll just say that you can't have too many pens. ;)

Parker Jotter. 10-11 bucks at Staples/Office Depot/Max for the all stainless, less ($6-8) for a model with a colored barrel. Here is an example http://www.officedepot.com/a/product...int-Pen-10-mm/
Life is too short to smoke drugstore cigars and write with a ballpoint pen...

I have to add my approval of a Jotter, too. It's a good pen, though not a rollerball as the OP requested. Solid operation, and I've had several. unfortuinately, they tended to go on walkabout.

Yah, not a rollerball, but if one is on a budget, there must be some give and take. I didn't know the difference between rollerball and ballpoint before B&B, perhaps I am relapsing

It's not too hard to convert a Jotter to a cheap Jetstream gel roller.

Or just buy the Inoxcrom roller ball refill or Parker's own gel refill--> http://www.artbrown.com/Parker-Quink...35195C102.aspx
