Default masonjarjar's Entry into the B&B Hall of Fame

Please allow me to introduce myself:

    Username:
    masonjarjar

    What is your real name?
    Mason

    What are your nicknames/aliases?
    Mason, Jar

    Where do you live?
    Cleveland Ohio

What is your age (or) generation?
    37

What are you in the real world?
    Computer Programmer (SQL)

What is your favorite shave setup?
For years and years: Burma Brush, Atra Razor, Williams Soap, American Crew A/S Lotion.
New products added to rotation recently: Aqua Velva Musk, Aveno A/S Balm, Clubman Luxury Shave Cream. (prior to meeting SWMBO, I had used Old Spice for years as did my dad, also had used Clubman regular, because a friend told me that was the stuff to get if you wanted to always smell like you came from the barber shop)

What are your hobbies and favorite activities?
Listening to Music (alternative rock, indie rock, punk, industrial, ambient & electronica, reggae, 80's, Classical - Mahler, Bruckner, Shostokovich, Stravinsky), reading books (been on somewhat of a self-help kick recently - been revisiting my 7 Habits books, also Wayne Dyer and Earl Nightengale) - favorite fiction writers: John Irving & Kurt Vonnegut. Spending time with my family.

What else should the members of B&B know about you?
One of my first shaving memories is making lather in my dad's soap mug, just for fun. I don't remember if he ever used a DE, I'll have to ask, my earliest memory is that he used a Trac-II. I'm not even sure what kind of brush he had, but it was well-worn. I didn't immediately follow in his footsteps as a young teenager, I'm sure I was using something like Foamy or Barbasol and a disposable. At some point I bought that Atra which I still use today. When I was 19 and home from college I was pointed back towards mug shaving by a friend of mine, who was also a mug shaver (he showed me the trick of putting the mug in hot water, which I still do to this day almost 18 years later)..

Anyway, I'm a college graduate with a music degree working with computers.. go figure. I can't say I'm new to the family life anymore, as its now been nearly half a decade.. where does the time go.

Loved the story of your father. Mine, too. Used an old "Old Spice" mug with soap. Made the lather right on top of the soap but mainly on his face. Never even looked at the brush but my guess is it wasn't anything too nice -- that just wouldn't be dad.

He used Trac-II's forever. But he just told me the other day his brush gave out on him and he now uses Barbasol Menthol. I'm getting him a new brush today! Something truly nice. Sometimes the older sheep get tired and lag behind the flock. Back into the fold, old man, you're too dear to me to leave behind. If you can't keep up, then I'll walk with you.

I thinking (hoping) if my wife gets me a few nice shaving items for christmas, my dad will see them and maybe get interested again. I think, like your dad, he has "given up" the brush. However, I would ask him first before buying him one, because he's very particular, if it's not something he wants to do, then he'd thank me for the brush, but then put it on a shelf and never use it..

Mason - Welcome to B&B! I think you should try to sell your dad on wet shaving and DEs. I have been trying for some time with my dad but not success yet. He does like the colognes, after shaves and ASBs which I guess is a start!
