Default Picked up a Feather Popular!

I FINALLY found a place out in town that carries the Feather Popular.

Some of you who haven't seen my posts might not be surprised that I couldn't find it... but then you realize I actually live in Japan right now, and so I was getting really, really frustrated.

I needed to shave today after just using my electric this morning on the ship, so I loaded it up with one of the included Feather blades (also bought some of those!) and gave it a shot. At first I tried to use the shaving cream they sold, but no luck making lather with it. So, back to the shaving soap and a decent (not great) lather... I kind of like this razor!

It's light, but as has been said before it's well put togethor and I think the included carrying case is a nice touch.

Anyone want one? They're only 670 yen. A pack of blases is Y505 out in town, however. Ouch.

As I'm starting to read about these modern "metal" razors breaking apart just from being dropped, suddenly a plastic handled razor with its business parts made of stainless steel starts to look like an even better deal. Knowing my EJ razor's shiny chrome is hiding cheap brittle metal makes it shine a little less brightly. I think I will pick up a Feather Popular as a backup for the inevitable day when I drop my EJ 8X or twist its head screw right off by tightening it a bit too much.

I really like my Feather Popular, and have been using it a lot lately. Definitely agree it's well put together, the plastic they use seems to be of good quality, and the handle feels nice in my hand. I paid ~ $18-19 US for mine, and am pretty happy with the purchase... 670 yen (a little over $8 US, I looked it up) is a steal! If you want a TTO under $20, I would recommend this one over, say, the Weishi (at around $13 US)--the 9306H is a good weight and has a nice finish, but I don't think it's as well made.

I like the Feather Popular too. I can always get a good shave from it, and it's well made and I know it will last.

The feather popular is my daily razor. The slim is taking a back seat to it right now. I think its very unaggressive, which works well for me. I just buff the blade instead! I have much less skin problems with the popular than the slim - really thinking of buying a AS-D1 because of how much I like the popular.

For fellow Japan residents, you can get a 20 pack of Feather blades for only 718 yen at Amazon.jp. Link here...

and you can get the Feather Popular for 630 yen also...

Ive only seen the Feather Popular for sale at Loft stores here in Tokyo. I really don't understand why Japanese men stay away from DE razors- it is as if there is some secret law against them.

I'm forever traumatised by seeing men at public baths just splashing their face and then shaving against the grain with no cream, soap, nothing.
My father in law and my wife's grandfather both use electric shavers, and my students (aged 18-21) only have to shave a bit of bum-fluff every couple of weeks, so i don't even discuss shaving with them.

I do like how Feather professional blades etc for Feather/Kai disposable type razors are only around 980 yen per pack as well.

I found it at a small, up-scale cosmetic store on Blue Street in Yokosuka. Unfortunately I don't actually read Hiragana well enough (yet) to read the name.

Yeah, there's a paradox to DE shaving in Japan. Every drugstore sells Feather stainless blades, but there are practically no stores that sell the razor itself.

I got mine a week or so ago for ¥840. I may have overpaid, but I figured a) it was less than ¥1000 and b) I was probably not going to find it in another store, so I grabbed it. I don't have anything to compare it to--the two razors I ordered are both waiting for me at home back in North America--but I've been impressed with how well made it seems, especially for a metal/plastic razor. I was expecting something more flimsy.

If you'll be back in the area, get a picture of the sign of the cosmetic store and I'll read its name for you.

A lot of DIY or tool stores carry big selections of aftershaves, some in huge (think 1.5l) bottles. They also carry DE blades, Injector blades, and Feather Popular razors. All of the ones in this area carry them.

I started DE shaving with a Popular, and I like it...especially the long handle. I usually use a Feather blade in it, and Astras in my other razors. I like the weeper-free shave I get with Astras; I wonder how an Astra would work in the Popular?

Sure thing. It's right off base so that's easy enough.
