TI Le Dandy #41 5/8 "Onondaga"

Just finished this one up for my rotation tonight. Bought this razor off of BST and it was pretty ratty. It had "outgrown" its original faux ivory scales (meaning, they shrank) and needed new shoes. So, I restored the scales and put them on a red imp and made a new set for this one.

So, I'm working on another project for someone, and needed a test set of scales for the finish. These are cut from 1/4 sawn white oak and done in a Gustav Stickley style fumed oak finish. The coloring is as close to the Stickley "Onondaga" finish as I have so far been able to get. Hence the name in the thread title.

The finish is understated and beautiful on white oak furniture, but takes quite a few steps to reproduce, including fuming the wood in chamber with very strong (and dangerous I might add) ammonia. The ammonia reacts with the tannins in the wood to give it a unique aged color.

Anyway, if any of you are interested in the details, shoot me a line and I'll fill you in on the process. Here's the razor porn for ya:

Got it all honed up tonight and will take it on its maiden voyage tomorrow. I think this one will be sticking with me for a while!

Good work. This is the exact razor I was talking about in the other thread. Needless to say the scales I 'temporarily' pinned on were a bit different. It was a fine shaver though.

I think it was on the comp. thread where I put Gold Dollar scales on the TI. It too was a Le Dandy. I know I'm gonna burn for that one. But the guy mailed me and just loved the hone job. He thought the scales though were a bit tight. Legion did say to make sure they were "pinned good and tight" So I did.
