I've never smelled EN, but the comparison is frequently made. I have read some saying that Encre Noir is more synthetic vs. Sycomore.

SWMBO also likes Sycomore and on occasion borrows it!

It's great. More perfumey (aldehydes?) versus the beautifully stark dryness of Encre Noire. If you're a vetiver fanatic (like me), go for it. If not, it may be too similar for a more general collection.

The Perfumed Court is one source you could try.

Our B&B vendor Archerfire carries quite a few vetivers, but I didn't see any Sycomore.

I liked it so much I bought a bottle (the small one). And I normally don't care for vetivers. This one is luxurious and refined as only Chanel can do.

For what it is worth, I was underwhelmed by the decant from TPC. I don't think it had been recently decanted and barely described the real juice. Fortunately there is a Chanel not far from me.

I, for one, think Sycomore is the bee's knees.

If you like your vetiver fragrances, you HAVE to at least try it. I have bottles of L'Occitane's Vetver, EN, M7, TdH in both edt and parfum, and have sampled countless other vetivers like Guerlain, Frederic Malle and Le Labo.

My reward if I complete the 12 month purchase sabbatical? A 200mL bottle of Sycomore....'nuff said?

Timmy Dee, have you tried Encre Noir? If yes, you still feel Sycamore is different enough to warrant giving Sycamore a shot? I know others have already addressed this issue in this thread; just looking for your thoughts.

EDIT: Ooops... just noticed that you've tried "EN", which is probably Encre Noir. Question answered.

Yeah, I have a bottle of Encre Noire (you correctly assumed that EN represents it).

I find them quite different. EN is one of the most unique vetivers I've ever tried. Bone dry, it is. If you thought of European autumn in a bottle, you'd think of something akin to EN. It conjures up images of woods (both the environment and of freshly cut timber for firewood) and dry leaves.

EN is such a marked deviation from what other frag houses do with vetiver that I feel one should try it if only to see just how dry a scent can get.
Sycomore isn't as bold. It's a vetiver that doesn't take such risks, and isn't as unique in overall scent, but it is composed so perfectly that it stands alone.

Sycomore is definitely different enough to at least buy a sample. You may find you actually prefer the dry vetiver of EN, but I certainly wouldn't feel silly having bottles of each.
If you could find a way to ignore the citrus of TdH parfum, you would get a vetiver note that is, in my opinion, closer to that in Sycomore than EN has.

Unbelievable! Still, after all this time, you're the enabler of enablers.

Very well stated. I concur. They're different. And a vetiver fan should sample (or own) both!

Oh you SOB, I've always wanted to try the Villoresi range! I can't find a decent stockist here in Oz. The Vetiver and the Uomo are the two that pique my interest the most. Please let us know your thoughts when you get it.
