I've been using a QCS shampoo bar for a little while now, and it's left my hair really soft, no vinegar or conditioner needed. As an added bonus, their Orange Spice has got to be the best thing I've ever smelled, I wish the soap and shave soap came in the same scent.

Wow, shampoo bars... I have never seen anything like this! I am very curious to give it a try though. Are there any brick & mortar chains that carry them? I just searched CVS, Target, Walgreens & Walmart's websites (they usually list availability at nearby locations) and didn't see anything from searches of 'shampoo bars'... I checked the Burt's Bees stuff at Walmart and searched nearby locations and they didn't carry them. Oh, I live just north of Boston, MA area....

I only ask because I am going away in a week and it would be awesome to pack a puck of this stuff in a travel kit as opposed to the mini travel shampoo... plus if I could scoop something up at a store I could try it out for the week leading up to the trip. An internet order would probably just arrive the day before I leave, or maybe even after I'm gone...

Thanks in advance for the tips!

Any whole foods stores should carry them, the most popular I have seen are Liggett's. Ive never used that particular one but I have used shampoo bars for a long time and I will never go back to liquid shampoo. My favorites are from the following 2 sites-

I am about a half hour ride from the nearest Whole Foods. I do have a Trader Joe's in the town I live in, maybe I'll check that out. Their website doesn't list any product, so it will have to be an in-store walk through.

I have also read about TJ Maxx having artisan body soaps... I can check there and see if maybe they carry shampoo bars? And actually, with all the body soap stuff I have been reading, heck, I may as well pick up a tallow or glycerine body soap to try. I read that the dollar tree/dollar store chains carry a good one that is $1 a bar... may be worth checking out too.

Ah ha! So this is the shampoo bar thread! I'm very intrigued. Since I have pretty short hair, is this something noticeable? Would it be better for SWMBO? I generally use whatever shampoo is lying around and never condition.
Please don't tempt me to buy anymore.

What's really nice about them is that you don't even have to take a full bar...just cut off a piece depending on the length of your trip and travel light! No TSA hassle either.

Well, I hit up the Trader Joes, Dollar Store, TJ Maxx and Target looking for a shampoo bar and came up bust. I was really hoping to find something, especially with the Trader Joes, which is the Whole Foods competitor in my area (like Burger King to McDonalds). These places are in my town so it was no big deal hopping around.

There is a wholefoods in Boston and I may be able to get one of my bachelor friends/co-workers who live in the city to do some shopping for me... we'll see. Maybe that would be too weird for them. Or I may just have to go online and maybe if I order asap, perhaps it will be in the mail tomorrow and shipped to me by thursday (I head out on the trip friday). I would feel very silly paying overnight shipping fees for $10 in shampoo bars... that may be a bit excessive!

On the flipside of my adventure, I did pick up a bunch of artisan body soaps... so I will be good in that department. Hopefully I can sell the wife on the whole thing and she'll get behind a robust internet order! (~fingers crossed!~)

Contact Michelle from Mystic Waters I'm sure she can work something feasible out for you.

Some work really well for me and some haven't. As far as shampoo bars I've stuck with the Ayurvedic Herb. It seems to work best for me for my scalp itch. Others have helped but not as much, and others seemed like it made it worse so if the first ones don't agree with you don't be afraid to try other bars of theirs. It kinda seems it's like razor blades, you have to get the ones that work for you :)

I tried the Ayurvedic Herb, Nettle, Cafe Moreno, and Extra Honey & Beer. The last one being the WORST for scalp itch. Yeah I'd say the Ayurvedic Herb was the best for me too though there was still some scalp itch. I just recently ordered QCS this time and will begin using my first bar from them late next week. Hope the scalp itch will be gone!

I've used QCS soap bars and they are good, when I need to restock my shampoo bars I am going to try a few of theirs.

It isn't a shampoo bar, but I use KMF Olive Oil soap for washing my hair. Works great, and there is no buildup, which I believe is what the vinegar rinse is needed for.

Wife and I have been using Mystic Waters for a week. Wife colors her hair and with conventional shampoo, her hair is a brittle rats nest when she gets done rinsing, she doesn't get this problem with the Mystic. Wife does the vinegar rinse, I haven't tried that. We both find it lathers well, and we like it.

I, too, love the Mystic Waters shampoo bar. I've been using it for quite some time now.

Years ago when I tried a shampoo bar (local vendor) it seemed that it was heavy and would not rinse out well. Do quality bars have that issue?

It's just like shaving soap: not all of them are alike. Just because the vendor calls it a shampoo bar doesn't necessarily mean it will function well as one. Sometimes you have to try more than one to find what will work for you.

    +1

I've tried 4 different types and Ayurvedic Herb has also been the best for me with my itchy scalp and light dandruff, second best for me is Nettle but it's still quite far behind Ayurvedic Herb.

I've found Kirk's Coco Castile soap works well for hair too, I couldn't keep using it because it did nothing for my itchy scalp but it sure left my hair soft and clean.
