I am the same way, petroleum products give alot more classic shine. I like the royal crown pomade better than the hairdressing, the hairdressing has awesome shine but the smell is too much

Mr. Ducktails is very comparable to Black and White hold wise. I'm german and have fine hair, so it's perfect for me, for you cats with thicker hair, you'll like it as a top coat as it is SHINEY!

Thats actually where I got my big tin, from hairgum! hah. I love the stuff, although, I use it sparingly, obviously because it's so expensive. It smells like Coca cola. It's awesome.

Yeah Spponylove, I just checked out hairgum, they only offer the smaller tin now. I can use less these days if I want as I shed the pompadour last week for a classic executive contour- tapered sides and back and a crisp side part(longer on top) with it all slicked back. Funny thing though I find my self wanting to use more on this style to give it that really wet/slick brylcreem look.

I can't wait to try some Mr. Ducktails! I only use petroleum based every once and awhile though.

Well I've had a chance to try some more pomades so I thought I'd chime in. Got me a tin of Monkey Brains. This stuff is pretty darn good. And at $2 a tin...why not? Better than any other pomade at that price. In fact IMO it competes with the likes of Suavacito.

Also got some Murray's Bees Wax. Very nice. Great hold, great shine, great smell.

Plan on getting some Schmiere Weich and maybe some Grants Golden Medium Blend or Uppercut water based...I'll update later.

I have used American Crew with very good results. I am not sure if it is available in the EU.

I use suave men's hair creme. It's a medium hold matte finish. I like it because just a small amount does the trick and it gives me a natural look, no hard shell...cheap and good what a combo

Black & White. the online shop i ordered from sent me 2 pots of it for the price of one, shipping error win! But royal crown is also really good and cheap but B&W takes the cake for a nicer smell. I have tried some of the SoCal water based stuff but i don't like it. Sweat and it gone...

FYI, it looks like Wallyworld is no longer stocking Suave pomade medium shine/medium hold and still carrying the paste. The bonus is that I have seen the pomade marked down to $1.50 a container in stores....

Everyone interested in pomades should read this blog.... It helped me tremendously when I started my search for a pomade other than Murray's.

Black and White is a classic, I quit using it because of the buildup it made in my hair. It was perfect though for a straight slick back, and it smells really good.
