    Default Felt question

I'm sure it's been asked before, but I got a 'big daddy' or 'big momma' strop, and it came with felt.
I already have a balsa strop with red and green CroX. Should I get some diamond paste for the felt, or is it just worthless?

I got my first coticule last week, did some work on a razor that was still sharp but needed to be freshened up. Just kept working it on the stone until the feedback felt like the razor was.....I dunno, "sharp"?
Then 20 on red, 40 on green and 100 on leather, and my cheapo $30 razor from the b/s/t shaved nicer then the MUCH more expensive TI i've been using. So i'm now officially the greatest honer on the planet, right????? :P

If you want to try another paste I highly suggest the Thiers Issard razor paste in the little white tube.

interesting, i recently got some diamond spray for the big mama felt i had lying around for over a year. i used .5 on it and i don't know if i helped or hurt the edge. i don't know if I felt it was that necessary, but way less expensive than a select standard coti... or other finisher than a Cnat.

unfortunately, it doesn't say much about the $30 BST vs TI as much as it does about the honing process.. what it does say is that inexpensive vintage blades can be awesome, as can expensive TIs... your expensive TI could also be made from a harder steel than the vintages, (if the $30 is vintage) which supposedly is more difficult to hone (maybe.. i don't know... i haven't really had that problem). the variables in straights in steel, grinds, (bevel readiness if just touching up), final edge finish all contribute to the confusion...

The felt works pretty good by itself (I own the Big Mamma). It does a number of things such making sure your blade is dry and removing particles from the blade before you put the blade to the strop. I can't say that it actually straightens the blade any for sure, but I don't doubt it does some work at that, too.
