What's new

How did it happen, I've become a weirdo

What, i don't have a problem! i don't have ADs!
How many pairs of shoes do you have? Our razors will out last almost anything else! Ha!!:001_tt2:

I've just accepted i'm weird. I have 6 DE razors, 1 SE, two straights. Countless soaps too. Don't even get me started on the blades. Just to make me even weirder, I use Linux on 4 PCs out of 5 at home so that makes TWO things I try to "push" to friends and family lol

It's not weird. Most packs of replacement disposable cartridges are priced the same or higher than a nice soap, cream or a vintage razor. I'd rather spend the money on decent long lasting items that make a daily ritual fun instead of a tedious overpriced scraping.
My lady seems to be taking it in stride. I of course indulge and approve of her mighty collection of handbags which is also not weird! :yesnod:

Cherles do me a favour then and look in the IT sub forum and seeif you can help me with my linux problem. You may just be weird enough to know the answer.

If looking after your personal hygiene makes one weird we are indeed living in a strange world. Last I looked funk & fresh aren't compatible:) It's one or the other. Not both.

I am happy to be aboard the good ship weirdo.
I agree with all of the above too, nothing wrong with looking after yourself. I'm not sure I'll ever get to the hundreds of razors like some here, but it's nice to use a variety of classic items that have stood the test of time on a daily basis. Using my 1956 super speed and 1963 slim for the first times was actually very cool.

My wife only told me after I started DE shaving that she didn't like my week old stubble previously and is much happier now. In any case I can blame her for this new hobby, it was she who organised the Christmas present of my first DE razor and MWF.
She likes the smell of Speick too, I have yet to start experimenting with lots of different after shaves / balms, but I'd say it's only a matter of time.

What will that make me - a class 2 weirdo?

I got a DE razor for Christmas and started into shaving with great gusto.
Now I shave far more often than I used to as I now enjoy it.

Now to the weirdo bit, I now have my Merkur progress (which I got for Christmas), a Super speed blue tip and a slim (both acquired from B&B members). I'm also sniffing around after my father in law's old gillette.

I know that having 3 razors is perfectly normal around here, but not everybody thinks this is normal.

So, it appears I have gone from a guy who shaved once a week grudgingly to a guy who has multiple razors and looks forward to shaving.

I know I am among kindred spirits, but what do your friends / families make of your ADs?

I'm not really sure that I see where your problem is here. Are you worried because you only have three razors? Don't worry - time will take care of that.

My sweetie has no room to complain - I had a beard when I met her, and this shaving nonsense was her idea!

And you should see her collection of purses, shoes....

Three razors? Well, that's a good start. Razors are your tools. Do you only have one screwdriver, one hammer? Besides, you are not "spending" money on razors... you are investing, you are doing your part to secure history, you are building a wetshave legacy! Embrace it!

So it seems that my mistake is having only 3 razors. 3 seems a bit weird because you don't "need" 3 razors to shave.
However, 10 is clearly a collection and therefore acceptable.

Right, only 7 razors away from normality, sweet

Aristocrat, rocket, new, tech...........

When I tell people I shave with classic razors and have collected a few they usually seems to think it's quite cool. The second I tell them I am on a intenet forum talking with other people who do the same is when the real weirdo looks always appear.

Hey, have you been busted watching YouTube videos of men shaving yet?

Yeah, it's awesome.

That happened to me the other night from my gf and she thought I had lost my mind she called it my porn. I knew she would think I am weird so I was trying to minimize it quiuckly before she saw me and called me out on it.. haha

It never ceases to amaze me how many times I've heard acquaintances moan about how much they hate shaving, then show no interest whats-o-ever in learning how to get a good shave or politely wait til I've finished telling them the alternatives before deciding I'm either
a) a snob
b) a wierdo
c) a total style-victim who thinks he's really cool but is in fact a bit sad for not realising that a Gillette Fusion is the best razor ever made.
I've converted a few people to real shaving, but most still think whatever's on telly is the be-all-and-end-all of shaving implements, despite the fact that they USE ONE and get a crappy shave every morning!
To sum up, most people are so lazy in their thinking and habits that they deserve what they get

You may not be weird, you may be a "Gourmet Shaver." That is what a friend of mine called me to a third party. I kinda liked that description. Three razors? Not weird. Staying up late to scan the interned for the addresses of antique stores less than a days drive from home--may be a little weird.

haha, good thread. I was converted sometime around January after reading another popular blog about shaving like your grandfather. My first razor was the EJ89, than a slim, Merkur Progress, Fatboy, 39c (my fav), Vision, and I have a Feather & r41 grande in the mail...so yeah I'm with you. I enjoy shaving now!

I have had a full beard for most of my life. In fact since shaving the last one off this is the longest I have gone with out a full beard. SWMBO was after me on a daily basis to grow my beard back but I have persevered and remain clean shaven (who knows for how long).

I just shaved my full beard down to a goatee so I could have more shaving real estate...maybe I'll shave it all off.

The moment I realized I was weird, was when my friends thought I was crazy after telling them, I was really excited because I got a great deal on a shaving brush for only $40.00.
They just could'nt understand(although I tried to explain) why anyone would spend $40.00 on a brush. LOL
