The brush in the set is really rough. I dont think its the same as the stand alone badger brush that sells for $10.

Still out of stock in stores near me. When it's in stock, I'll get it and PIF the brush and keep the soap and mug.

It's certainly great for wetshaving whenever Target carries these sorts of things -- we saw a bump in interest a few years back when Target stocked Proraso. There's something really beneficial about new B&B members (and lurkers -- come out, come out wherever you are!) being able to dip their toes into the wetshaving water via a relatively inexpensive trip to Target where they can see the goods firsthand before pulling the trigger. There are better soaps and brushes out there, of course, but this VDH line would seem to be a perfectly good place to start. A welcome development.

Funny as long as I've been using VDH soap (about 4 years), Rite Aid has -always- only stocked the "Select" version of VDH. Walgreens and Wal-mart stock the "Deluxe" version.

To serve the B&B community (and out of curiosity) I dropped the $20 bill and made this purchase today.

    1) The brush is boar hair, very rough, would not use
    2) Stand is nice, probably one of the best plastic stands I've ever seen. It will hold a brush and a razor
    3) The bowl, very solid, probably the nicest thing in the box. This alone is worth $20
    4) The soap, generous amount. I haven't opened.

I will probably return this since the brush isn't badger....I would PIF the set, but with a new baby coming, we better not do that right now.

On a side note, they restocked this company's badger hair brushes and those were very nice. It's worth the extra $1 to get this instead of the shea brush in the same store.

I picked this up and for $20 for a set you can't really complain.

The cup is pretty nice. Descent size. Solid feel. Looks great.

The brush is actually real badger. I spent the better part of last night trying to wash the smell out. There's a logo imprinted on the handle of the brush, but is very easy to scratch off. The brush isn't the softest out of the box. But once you clean and condition the hair it actually feels pretty nice on the face. And yes your are supposed to lose a few hairs during the break in period.

Stand is pretty solid and has a razor holder as well.

I haven't used the soap yet but did use it to lather the brush to get the stink out. It lathers nicely and quickly and smells pretty good.

For the $20 Shave Set category. There aren't many but this one shines. Beginners can appreciate the start. And the experienced can Atleast appreciate the cup.

    That brush is not badger

maybe they pulled a switcharo, but the brush in the box I purchased is not badger.

Its a pure badger brush. I couldn't find the website on my 2 sec search, but amazon will do

FWIW, the set sold on Amazon is $32 and it might be that way because it does have a pure badger brush, but this set sold at Target for $20 comes with brush that is not badger... :) so we are probably both right.

Just to clarify the Target VDH set comes with a boar brush, I picked one up today and popped the box open to check and compared it to the stand alone VDH badger brush and it is noticeable in the difference so I picked up the badger brush as well.

I got the badger brush in my VDH set as well, how does it compare to the stand alone one? the one that is $10 next to it right?

It doesn't compare, IMO. The stand alone is a very nice piece...it could run for $20-$25 and still be cheap. The brush in the set sold at Target is very rough, I don't even think it's as good as the brush in the cheaper green premium box from this same company.

Did you get your set on Amazon or from Target?

The bowl and stand alone make it worth it, but if you're already set on a bowl and stand(s) then it might be best to pass it by. At US$20, that's two tubs of MB soap!

Interesting. I bought this brush separately. I had assumed it was the same brush included in the kit. Is the one in the kit different?

If you got a badger brush with your VDH set then one of the "higher end" sets might have slipped through VDH quality control and you lucked out.
As a comparison I really can't say as the only badger I've used to date is under 10.00 Shea Ultimate Shave Brush also from Target.
While cleaning and prepping the VDH badger for use I did notice it to be a bit stiffer than the SUSB but that might not be a bad thing as the SUSB seemed a bit too "floppy" to me.

I bought the VDH set last night at my closest target and the brush is boar. If you look at the picture of the brush on the VDH set box and the picture of the box with just the $9.99 brush, you can see that they look different. I also happen to have the VDH deluxe set and the brush knot is almost identical to the one in the Target VDH set. It is still a good deal at $19.99. You could buy the badger brush for $9.99 and still be ahead of the Amazon deal at $32.99 plus have a extra brush.

Hey your right, I was buying toothpaste today and walked over to check both the set brush and the stand alone brush. I have the $10 badger brush in my $20 set... I'm not complaining on how it got there.

The first ingredient on soap is propylene glycol

The brush, holder, mug, easily worth $20, but
the soap would be a PIF, in trash :)

They are popping up in my targets as well, good to see stuff like this!
