    Default A Hello and a question.

    Hi everyone. Been lurking and learning for a few months. I'm from Ohio and a history student at Ohio State.

    I've found I really like Shark Superchrome blades but hate (and loathe) the gillete 7 o'clock blues. I typically use a closed-comb, ball-end tech or a flair tip superspeed. What other blades might I like?

    Thanks

    Hi. And welcome to the B&B.

    I'm not that familiar with the Sharks. If I remember, they're on the sharp side. I know the superspeed, though, and I prefer it with blades that aren't known as super sharp. I tend to put the sharper blades, like the 7 o'clocks, into a more aggressive razor. I love the superspeed when I use the Personnas or Derbys. You might try them. Though it seems you might like it a little sharper than I do.

    Welcome. I don't have much experience with different blades. I found one early on that I liked and I haven't really searched to see if there is anyting better. However I think you'd probably like Personnas and Astras.

    Check out the sampler packs at some of the trusted vendors on the site. I've tried many, many blades and landed on the Feather as best for me and my beard. Gillette 7 O'Clock yellows were close as were the Astras. It is very much a YMMV thing. Sampler pack is the way to go, though.

    cosmicdoom;

    Welcome to B&B, it's great to have you with us. From what you've listed in your kit so far, I'd say you've learned very well.

    One of my brother-in-laws went to OS, and majored in Business. He and my Sis are very much supportive of OS especially whenever there is a game on.

    Try Gillette greens, Lord super chromes, Treet Silvers, Supermax super platinums. I tend to dislike the Gillette blues as well and like these blades with a medium aggressive razor.

    I should qualify that I am fully bearded and only shave my neck and head. The blues irritated my throat and the back of my neck as well. Is this because they are a very aggressive blade? Or is it because they are too mild. I would say it is all technique but I get great results with my sharks, and superb results when I have the time for a nice, leisurely and luxurious shave.

    As an aside, I thought I was switching to wet shaving so that I wouldn't break the bank on cartridge refills. I bet you all will have a good private laugh about that. I am constantly thinking about the next time I can raid a local antique shop or browse the 'bay.

    Welcome to the forum. Trying to say which would be a better blade for you is almost impossible as everyone is different. One members best might be your worst. The best thing you can do is get a large sampler pack and work through it. Keep a record of how each blade works for you, and find your own best blade(s).
