Hoffritz (Merkur) Slant

I just received a Hoffritz slant bar razor. It came in the really cool chrome case

with the 2 chrome sleeves for new and used blades(they don't say new and used like some do). While cleaning the razor I noticed that the barrel and the knob have a satin sheen like they were silver plated, other wise the razor is identical to my newer Mekur.
Does anybody know when Merkur stopped using the metal cases? I have a Progress that came in the Ivory plastic clamshell case, it's instructions say made in Wet Germany so I can date it. I also have 2 Merkurs in the back plastic case with the clear lid. Now Merkur send their razors in a cardboard box

The Chrome case is sweet and a Super Speed or an Aristocrat fit perfectly.

I have the same razor and I am now reminded I need to use it. I have the same beef with Merkur. It would be great if they sold a neat wooden or chrome box for their razors--like the old gillettes. I'd buy one for my 12c.

I hate to admit it but I have the same razor/box/set by Merkur branded with the name Merkur, Hoffritz, Lunawerk, Coles, and Pomco. All by Merkur and all identical save for the name stamped on them. The insanity of the collector.

If they made a nice case for them the price would be even higher and I guess they are afraid it would have a negative effect on sales.

I just picked up one of these the other day on ebay. Can't wat to get it and try it out.

I found one on eBay a short while ago. It has a small crack in the base plate at the safety bar, but it does not affect the shave. (Otherwise, the razor is excellent condition.)

I used it this morning for the first time. What a shave! Aggressive, but not too aggressive. Smooth. Close. Brilliant.

I still do not know if the slant makes a noticeable difference. (Especially over a non-slant with the Gillette Slide.) The blade exposure and the heft--an impressive 70g--are alone easily credited for the superb shave.

(I wonder about the combination of Hoffritz Slant and the Gillette Slide?)

I just bought and cleaned up a Pomco...will be trying it for the first time tomorrow :)

Hoffritz slant is my daily razor, I get consistently great shaves with it when paired with a red personna blade.

I just found one of these in an antique shop and was wondering what is a fair price for it?

They have it priced for $60. It includes the chrome case and blade holders... looks cherry, but wasn't sure about the price.
