I just received a Hoffritz slant bar razor. It came in the really cool chrome casewith the 2 chrome sleeves for new and used blades(they don't say new and used like some do). While cleaning the razor I noticed that the barrel and the knob have a satin sheen like they were silver plated, other wise the razor is identical to my newer Mekur.
Does anybody know when Merkur stopped using the metal cases? I have a Progress that came in the Ivory plastic clamshell case, it's instructions say made in Wet Germany so I can date it. I also have 2 Merkurs in the back plastic case with the clear lid. Now Merkur send their razors in a cardboard box.
The Chrome case is sweet and a Super Speed or an Aristocrat fit perfectly.
Bob.

If they made a nice case for them the price would be even higher and I guess they are afraid it would have a negative effect on sales.
