Thanks again for the warm welcome guys! Thanks to beengone for a link to a great deal on a Edwin Jagger razor on Amazon. I ordered it but they are temporarily out of stock. I signed up for Amazon Prime so i get free shipping for the next 30 days which should be plenty of time to get my "starter kit" together.

Welcome to B&B, Steve. The real progress is going back to traditional wet shaving with a DE or straight razor.

Welcome from another Newbie here from Northern NJ......... seems as if we stubbled on a fantastic site and I'm in need of allot of information...Went to a Safety Razor recently and love it... reminds of when I learned to shave back in the late 70's and brings back memories of seeing my Dad shave...

You may want to look into some of our B&B sponsoring vendors. Good folks with good prices for the most part. They support B&B; always good to support them when possible. That $26 DE89 was interesting though. Everyone has their favorite(s), but here's the link to the vendor list.

Thanks Dan -I would much rather buy from vendors that support this forum regardless of price. Amazon is always my first stop for price "sanity checks" for user reviews but now i have this forum to look at as well!

Steve, welcome aboard the B&B! I'm a new member and a relatively new "returnee" to traditional wet shaving. You will find, likely already have, that this is a great community. Everyone is so willing to help, support, share advice. You can search through the forum for threads on new shavers, advice on kits and technique and save yourself a lot of time and mistakes (my story). A treasure trove of information and some fun!

Jump on in, the hot water and lather is fine! Keep posting to this threand and share your first shaves and progress with the rest of us! If you PM your address to me, I would be glad to PIF (send you free) a small sample of some blades to try if you like.

I'm originally from the Philly and SE PA area, spent a good portion of my younger years in NJ as well. Transplanted to Wyoming in 1977.

I think you're the first person to ever use Hillsborough (Middle of NoWhere) as a reference point. :)

welcome to the site I'm brand new here too........and from Northern NJ .....

I would love a NJ thread listing good places to find blades and which type they sell.......

In search of good saftey blades..... yet to find what I like yet...

Art of shaving has Merkur and Harmon Drug store has Wilkonsons... but thats not that big a selection... would love to try some others.. probably going to order a sample pack on line....but would be nice to have a list of stores that have a good selection..

Hey Steve, welcome to B&B from the left coast! Our *history* mirrors each other's somewhat. I'm going to be 67 in a couple of weeks, started out with a SE GEM, progressed to a DE Gillette, and then on to the multi blade's. A month or so ago, my son visited the AOS shop in San Francisco, came back with the address for this great site, and the urge to get back to the *basic* form of shaving hit me. I'm not ready to do the Straight Razor [maybe never]. We'll see.

Anyway, it's great to have you here with us.
    Regards. Stan

Thank you all! I appreciate the continued welcomes. Nice friendly board.

H.S.M.Jr. and dfollett_98 - good to hear that there are others here with "patina". Aging is so weird - i don't feel old and yet everywhere i go when i look around, i'm the oldest guy there... :) - NOT complaining about aging as the alternative sucks.

Rjack - i'm between exits 2 and 3 of the Turnpike.

    Thanks again,
    Steve

Steve, consider yourself "experienced," not old. As one of the more experienced members of B&B (I am 70) I have found that paying attention to my appearance and having a good attitude does wonders to keeping you young. (Of course, having a beautiful wife who is 7 years younger than me but has the energy level of a 30 year old, helps too! )
