Thank you for the warm welcome! This seems like a friendly forum.
I am going to continue with the testing of the blades, I have a fair few to go yet. Thanks for all the tips and after my BBR shavin cream has run out I shall hopefully be trying out different soaps and creams :)
Welcome to B&B, Ryan!!

Wishing I was back on the AT.
Welcome mate.

My alum block arrived today. It's larger than I was expecting, I'm hoping this will improve my shaving experience and help my skin to recover better.
Welcom Ryan. Sounds like you have a similar sampler pack to mine. I started this thread to get some ideas on working through it.

Well, I've used my alum block tonight post shave and I don't know what's happened. My face looks like a teenagers and it's full of razor burn. I've not had razor burn like this before, The only thing I think it could be is a reaction to the block?
Glad to see another UK member.
As to your problem - some people do complain about the consistency of Derby blades so it could just be you picked up a bad one, I don't find them inconsistent myself but as always YMMV. Try another Derby and if that doesn't improve things change to another brand.
If alum is irritating your skin try witch hazel - boots does cheap bottles.
I may be wrong - it's never happened before but it's possible.
Welcome to B&B! The Astra SP was the blade I started with from my sampler pack and I found it to be excellent. It receives rave reviews on this site by many.
Welcome to B&B. Shaving finest forum & members. IMHO ...
Yes the boots distilled witch hazel is very cheap - you can get the same stuff in some large supermarkets.
I may be wrong - it's never happened before but it's possible.

Welcome aboard the B & B (besides being enrolled in the fictional, sacred and utopian Order of Shavedom). Please feel free to come up to the promenade / sun deck & 'sit-a-spell'.
eSounds like your off to a great start and yes,...this For (aewesome you get the Merkur...I own the 23C & 38C), we heve the knowledge, ideas, and all around 'know-how' to assist in your Wet-Shaving experience. In a nut-shell...your 'gonna' love it here.
Q. What brand of other tools (razors, brushes, scents, soaps ect...), are you working with?
It's my sage and humble advice to get a Razor Blade Sampler to see what blade would be a good fit (mild, moderate & aggressive, ect...), for your face and Razor plus the Thread entitled Wet Shaving Instructions & Tutorials! maybe of great interest to you and is very informative.
Although, you may not be additted yet (I think I'm holding up fairly well...with a few exceptions), because we all suffer (gladly and are doomed perhaps), from this shaving complusion (and other Acquisition Disorders), because at times..."Resistance is futile".![]()
