    Default Show us your notebook

I decided I wanted a more "personalised" notebook for EDC, so I made this up from strop leftovers.

It is just a leather cover which is designed to fit those thin Moleskine cahier books. I like them because the pages are perforated, so if you want to give someone your number, or leave them a note, they tear out easily. Once the book is used up it is just a matter of sliding it out (it is held in with a thin thong of kangaroo leather) and popping a new one into the cover. I really like the look and texture of the leather as well, because it came from the edge of the hide so it has a few wrinkles and growth lines and stuff.

Anyway, that is my new one. What do you carry?

I don't carry one all the time, though I have a moleskine daily planner that I keep around. Thats a very nice looking cover you made yourself, though.

Clairefontaine 8x11, goes with me everywhere all day. If I write something down it's in there. This one's almost full so I'll be ordering soon.

Clairefontaine 9X14 cm pocket notebook. This has turned out to be the best notepad I have ever purchased. I read a review of them from a military member that was using one for field notes in Afghanistan. I figured if it could stand up to that abuse, it would be perfect for my trades. It has held up admirably, I have another that came in the pack as this one is almost full. I plan to include quite a few more on my next Goulet's order. This goes with me everywhere and is on my person an average of 14 to 18 hours a day. The little cheapo spiral pads were good for a week tops. This one has been with me since October.

I'm gonna have to check that out Jason. It looks like it's a very quality made notebook. I'm pretty rough on them, as I can see you are too, so I have no doubt that it'll hold up on the job.

What sort of paper do they use in their notebooks?

I use several journals at work...my Rhodia Webbie most recently replaced the Exacompta that I had been using.

Usually a small one in the hip pocket (Rhodia 7.5 x 12 cm), this one has been used 120 days + four countries and is being retired today.

I'm carrying a Moleskine 9x14 cnm with 64 pages . . .similar wear but only over cities rather than countries. Made in china but fountain pen friendly paper. . . but now . . .having several Rhodia pads on hand . . . I wonder about the Rhodia version.

What a interesting thread! Thanks for starting it David. I'm thinking how cool it would be to have my own little book...

I have one of these. A 3 pack is pretty cheap. Often, my planner is my notebook.

Since I use fountain pens, Moleskine doesn't work too well (feathering, bleed-through, etc.). I use Rhodia and Clarifontaine in a variety of sizes. The paper is very fountain pen friendly. I always have around a 3" x 4" in a pocket and usually others in my iPad bag, briefcase, and around the house and office. I'm never without a fountain pen and pad of some sort.

Haha. That looks great. That is why I made the leather cover for mine. You can still shove it in your pocket or whatever, but it will keep it in one piece a bit longer.

I forget if this was a DAY PLANNER cover or???
It amazes me that the monogram TOB is still attached...THis is probably 20 yrs old now...or more
Anyways it has held a small MOLESKINE for several generations.

I use a lined, not the calender nowadays

phone number book is replaced with a thin year by month calender

Still very useful and goes with me everywhere in back pocket or cargo...Since I retired and no more binder clip.

I've been wanting a CIAK with the two color front and back that is two pads in one.
That would make my day...BUT haven't found them in States and off shore is too $ey

THAT IS A VERY NICE COVER YOU MADE WITH THE LEATHER and the ROO thong. Well done!

Not talented enough to make my own notebook cover, but I got one of these in Flight Jacket color for Christmas since I always carry Cahiers in my pocket. It is very nice and the customer service is good to go.

Nice! Disappointed I did not invent the idea, but I did save $30. So that's a win.

The smaller notebook goes between my backpack or my back pocket and is used to keep track of exam/assignment dates and to jot down daily reminders. The bigger notebook holds the juicy stuff.
