Default Adding Lime essential to your Bay Rum

I love Clubman Bay Rum and Masters B/R. I added 1 drop of Lime Oil to the Clubman B/R [12 oz bottle} and 2 drops to the Masters B/R [15 oz bottle} Very pleased with the results. With the Clubman the lime seemed to cut down the clove scent somewhat and with the Masters it gave it a nice aroma. Very nice if you like a little lime scent. If you try it let me know what you think.

I've been reading all the posts about Bay Rums for a few months... then I figured I might as well join the discussion so I signed on a couple of days ago. One of the posts suggested Masters, so I went to a local Sally's where the salesgirl let me smell the Masters. To me it was way too heavy on the cloves, but maybe that's me? I don't have a full beard any longer so I'm shaving and years back I used 4711 After Shave which had a nice citrus aroma and wasn't too overpowering. Right now, I'm using Pinaud/Clubman... cheap but does the job.

Are all the bay rums heavy on the cloves? Hard to find samples in stores around here.

I have a Dickinson's witch hazel bottle filled with half Clubman Bay Rum and half Masters Bay Rum. It works well for me as the Clubman was a little too clove-y for SWMBO (she's not that into bay rums to begin with, more of a sandalwood gal). I put 3 drops of lime EO and it really knocked out the light clove scent from the mixture. I'm happy with it...thanks for the post!

Doc; Pinaud Bay Rum has the heaviest cloves in my opinion. More so than Masters. There are some Bays that are lighter on the cloves but then seem very weak. [my opinion again} I see Captains Choice and Ogallea are very popular on this site and I plan on trying them. Per my post I have noticed the added lime cuts down on the clove. I am going to follow W Wilsons suggestion of mixing the Pinaud Bay with the Masters.

Master Bay Rum has only four ingredients (excluding colors), and bay oil is the only fragrance agent. Not a clove to be found in there. Bay oil smells similar to clove, to some people.

I was about to order some of the Dominica BR with Lime (thought I'm not sure if it's an AS or cologne - anyone?). I might just try this since I can pick up Pinaud locally and I'll try the local Sally for the Masters. Question, though: where do you guys get your lime EO? I see some at Barclay Crocker for $8.95 for .25oz. I am placing an order there anyhow for their samples. Is that worth adding or are there better deals?

    Thanks for the idea!

I ordered 4 bottles of EO from a vendor by the name of Natures Kiss on Amazon. They have a large selection and most of them are covered under the free shipping for orders over $25.

I add Lime eo to my Masters. Picked the eo up at Vitamin Cottage for about $4 if I remember right. Plan to pick up some tangerine eo to try as well.

Is it an AS or cologne? I like it too, based on a sample I had that ran out.

mountain rose herbs on the web has a very good selection and good customer service. Working on making my own Bay rum. I have a Bay tree and am harvesting the leaves. Also experimenting with EO's and my own cologne's. I'm working on 8 verities of Bay rum, 4 Vetiver's and some sandalwood mixes.

Well I'll be trying this out. I just got my bottle of Dominica Lime and I can't tell there's any lime in it. Might sell this and buy a cheap bottle of BR and some lime EO or just buy the EO and add it to my Dominica. Huge letdown. The sample vial I have, mostly dried up, still smells of lime. The bottle I received has no smell of lime IMO.

Another that some swear by is St. Lucia - both are often referred to as a splash. Lighter in note...

I guess I was spoiled by Bigelow. Most other Bay Rums are too harsh for me.
