    Default Newbie Cream/Soap Question!

    Hi All,

Newbie here! Been wetshaving for a few months now, and I'm loving it. I just joined B&B tonight, and am glad to be on board. I just posted this question mistakenly in the Shaving Cream secetion, but I think it's more appropriate in the Newbie Check-In, so my apologies for the double post! (Tried to delete the other one, but couldn't ) Here's my question:

I just ordered the T&H sampler, and so far, have found all of the scents to be very artificial and "perfumey". The only other cream I've ever used is AOS Sandalwood, which smells much more natural, and, in my opinion, nicer. Are there any other creams out there that have a similar more "natural" scent?

For example, one of my favorite scents is my Dr. Bronner's lavender body soap (which I don't use for shaving). It's actually scented with real lavender oil, and smells AMAZING. The T&H lavender I tried, on the other hand, smelled like stuffy, musty, chemical perfume.

Any advice for other creams/soaps to try, which might smell more real?

    Thanks!

    Hi Zap,

I am fairly new to DE shaving and this forum myself but I can say that you may want to look into Edwin Jagger Soaps. The only soap I have from them is the seabuckthorn, which smells amazing. It is a fantastic soap all around. I have never smelled seabuckthorn in the wild but the soaps smell is clean and very light, and berryish (seabuckthorn is a berry after all). They advertise as 99.9% natural. I highly recommend it.

    And welcome to B&B

Hey welcome! Kiss My Face makes a pretty decent and readily available lavender-I'm kinda picky with scents too. I enjoy AOS sandalwood, as well. Also you may want to check out the shaving cream samplers from Queen Charlotte soaps-they have a plethora of natural and earthy scents to choose from. Celestial woods for example, smells pretty much like the woods.

Welcome. As someone noted EJ has nice muted scents

Others are Muhle, AOS and Haslinger. If you like Lavender, Taylor of Old Bond Street makes a nice Shaving soap in that scent

Welcome, and I agree about Proraso. Proraso is great stuff, relatively inexpensive, and with enough volume to make many practice bowls of lather during the learning proess. They make pre/post shave cream and some sensitive skin stuff also. I like the way Proraso feels on the face, and I enjoy their fragrances, which, IMO, are subtle and nice. Buy and try! Whatever you don't like can be PIF'd or B/S/T'd here.

Everyones nose varies. I find the T&H creams to be wonderfully scented. Then again, I prefer Pehaligons and Floris to Lilac Vegtable

My QCS sampler just arrived, and I had my first shave with the lavender soap. It's fantastic!! Great lather, very slick, and a strong, but very natural lavender scent. Nothing chemical or perfumey about it. Just real lavender. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I'm looking forward to trying the rest of the samples. Thank you for all of your suggestions! I found a winner!

BTW...their costumer service is stellar! I got shipment confirmation about 2 hours after placing the order, and via standard shipping, received it in just 2 days! Qeen Charlotte Soaps get an A+ in my book!
