I believe the xenolithic portion of the micaceous metagabbro was chiseled out. M80, I think you got it.
 
Thanks for the input, Guys! After vetting all the responses and asking some "old timers" from our area, it appears to be a foundation stone for a post or beam. I tried it out as a shaving bowl but I couldn't get as good a lather as I can from my Dirty Bird! (just kidding!)
 
It looks like a firestarter, with a hole drilled through.

Let me explain. Stick on top of rock with kindle, dry grass surrounding it. years later,cut a hole in rock to put kindle in it and stick to start it......slowly over time smaller hole was drilled in or through it.

I have seen some fire starters like that with 5-6 holes drilled through it.

Looks like something to melt some type of metal. Place fire on top and metal inside and as it melts it drains into a receptacle or mold. Hole on side for air flow?
