As long as a package that contains alcohol andweighs in at less than 5oz, is heavily packaged in a lot of bubble wrap, paper, padding, etc...is it still alright to ship through regular mail instead of whatever method the postal office would use?

I've done it numerous times. I'm sure it violates some postal regulation, but...

It really is all James' fault.
(Okay, maybe Owen had something to do with it as well.)
If the experience at the postal counter is any indication of how the rest of the organization is run, I really don't think anybody cares what you ship or how it's done. As long as nothing spills pick whatever shipping method you like.

I disagree. Some of the folks at my post office are adamant about not putting cologne or aftershave on a plane. You could lie, of course, but you could get caught. I recently had a bottle break in the mail even though I thought I had it sufficiently padded and boxed. Luckily, I had put the bottle into a sealed baggie, and the buyer was able to save almost every drop of the juice. (Thanks for being cool about it, NidHog!) I also had a vendor package arrive with a shattered aftershave bottle inside. It could happen to you, too. If it's noticed by the wrong postal worker having a bad day, it could cost you. You probably lose only a couple of days, at most, mailing it legally.

got this from usps, I'm sure aftershave and other products with alcohol (including booze on the first page) falls under perfumes and therefore qualifies as hazardous materials and can't be shipped. http://www.usps.com/ship/can-you-ship-it.htm#hazmat
Gene ~ When in doubt, use a bigger hammer.
As someone who used to handle HazMats, the issue of not knowing what you're dealing with causes lots of problems. Is it alcohol, or phenol? Talc or explosive? That leads to very expensive cleanup, because of the uncertainty of what you are dealing with. Such expense would be passed back to the shipper.

Same in Canada. Canada Post doesn't want any perfume/cologne shipped.
I asked once how I could do it and they just said "You don't".
gee, thanks guys. Anyway, I'm sure the juice gets shipped all the time.
Like most things in life, you only get the short end of the stick if something goes wrong.
I'll bet you dollars to donuts there is lots of stuff that shouldn't be shipped in airplanes over your head right now.
(did you look up? hee hee)

Yeah, I can't figure this whole thing out. There are vendors in the US that won't ship AS/cologne to Canada. But there are some that will. Connaught in the UK won't ship anything with alcohol to Canada. But I can order old spice and other aftershaves from India. I order from Fragrancex in the US all the time. No problem there. It's really frustrating because there are some products that I simply cannot find here in Canada and no one will ship them here.![]()
