I seem to be getting unusual results compared with most others here. Over all I get better results with the "sharp" brands but I'm getting very inconsistent results pretty much no matter what.
feather: sharp but not smooth. mild irritation.
astra sp: not quite as sharp but not too smooth.
gillette yellow: pretty decent
big Ben: dull garbage
personna store brand (Kroger): sharp but not smooth, fairly irritated
shark super chrome: doesn't seem sharp at all - more passes= irritation
merkur: meh

and then along comes...
...Lord Platinum: wow. super close, smooth, irritation free. Feels sharp and smooth. Dirt cheap.

How can this be? I think everybody seems to think that Lords are a very middle of the pack blade. I don't get it. For me my mileage seems to vary quite a bit.

which razor are you using?..every razor and blade used together will usually will be noticeably different

All of my razors fall into the more or less "mild" range.

Glad you found "your blade & razor combination". I still rotate razors and blades, but my favorite combination is the Feather AS with Personna Medical Prep blades.

I recall some other members praising the Lord Plats. Not surprising to me at all.

This goes to show how different this experience is for all of us.
That's what keeps it interesting.

Something to consider before you make up your mind forever: you just joined B&B a month ago, so I assume that you haven't been DE shaving for very long. If so, your technique might still be developing, so the blades that don't work well for you right now might become favorites after you've gotten you technique down, Don't throw or give away those bad boys--re-try them in about 6 months or so and you might well be very surprised!

I think I've got my technique more or less down, at least for the actual shaving. I've been VERY consistent in my routine. Now there may be some products and equipment that have a learning curve the first couple of times, but the actual shave stays the same. I absolutely intend to revisit the "sharp" blades I've come across but I've no patience for dull tugging blades and plan to PIF the ones I don't care for. Perhaps one small obstacle to consistent shaves has been my RAD, ASAD, and CAD but the collecting and various trials are fun enough to warrant a little razor burn now and then.
