I have three soaps and three creams and I'll usually just use whatever I feel like that morning/evening. If I roughed myself up with the previous shave, however, that will limit my selection to something more soothing to my skin.

I decide based on what time of day I happen to be shaving, and what appeals to me. If its nighttime probably Cella, a nice normal shave - Arlington, a refreshing shave - Proraso.
Also my soaps/creams are split between two places.

Sounds like most pick and choose based on the day. I used to. Now days, most of my soaps/creams are part of a setup that includes AS and Balms. I usually use a setup for a week and then switch to another the next. I also vary the soap and cream and AS/balm based on the season (creams during the winter with balms, soaps with AS during the summer) and use a cologne that compliments the set up. I've found this to help control my RAD for this stuff and spintering off different soaps, creams, AS and Balms that don't relate and evens out the use. I'm also less prone to take a "flyer" on something that's just going to collect dust because my expectation wasn't met when I tried it. I've had plenty of $20 and $30 dollar disappointments...the problem being that this stuff tends to last forever. Regards.
Thanks for the replies this is a very interesting thing to know. I guess the more variety the more excitement to choose from. keeping shaving and the hobby fun. Thanks, Korey

Shave Soap & Cream Scents don't last too long after the shave so it really doesn't matter, unless you're setting your mood/theme. My only real exception would be during the Summer when I use my Key Lime SC & finish with Island Lime Splash, and the Lime scent is Fleeting, from the Cream to the Splash. Since the Splash is inexpensive I load up an atomizer for refreshing sprays during the day.

Aside from a current assortment of small samples, I usually have only 3-4 soaps or creams on hand. I just pick the day's soap randomly each morning. The AS balm I use is neutral (Nivea Sensitive) and I choose the AS or cologne based on occassion and if it complements the soap scent. I have two DE razors which are used at will also.

Haven't fallen prey to the AD bug (much), yet. I stick with a soap and/or cream until I feel like a change.
Just getting into scents, and I can already see that might be a different story entirely.
For me it depends on the whether outside. Here in southern California its pretty much warm all year round, so I fake it as much as I can. But for those few cold weeks in December and January I really enjoy woodsy, cedar, musky scents. However, I tend to drag those scents out longer because they are my favorite, next to Lavender.
Springtime through summer I usually stick with Lavender. Its such a nice awakening fragrance.
Summertime and hot weather definitely call for more of a citrusy, refreshing scent. Any of the Limes scents from Trumper work great. Royall Lyme's Mandarin for aftershave/cologne are fantasic during this time.
In fall, I tend to fall back more into some spiced fragrances or sandalwood, and start the whole cycle all over again. Trumper also makes a great cologne called Marlborough that is just great for my "woodsy, cedar" fix.
i JUST finally got my full rotation of 7 soaps for a 1-week schedule, and i tried to come as close to alliterative holday-esque titles as i could:
Barbershop Sunday (Mike's Naturals) <--- because relaxing at the barber shop seems like a Sunday-ish thing to do
MWF Monday <--- alliteration
Tabac Tuesday <--- alliteration
Almond Wednesday (Cella+TOBS Almond Cream superlather) <--- random basically
Proraso Thursday (new formula) <--- also random
DR Harris Arlington Friday <--- a manly, citrusy scent to start the weekend
QCS Green Irish Tweed Saturday <--- a cologne scent on a party day seems fitting
I've got so much, I just go cream soap cream soap etc, i don't us aftershave for the heck of it, only use it when I go out etc else its just nivea ASB.
It was pretty easy when I only had one puck of Williams or VDH and a single bottle of Brut aftershave. Then the SSAD and ASAD set in...
For a while I was choosing a shaving soap and aftershave mostly at random. If I was headed out for the evening or into the office I would use more expensive scents. If the plan is knocking around the house or running errands for the day I tended to use the less expensive scents.
Right now I'm trying to work through individual soaps from beginning to end just to figure out how long they last, so not much rotating going on for the next couple of months. After that, it's probably back to using matching soap and aftershave chosen at random.
