    Default Vintage Lighters

I've always been fascinated by Vintage Lighters, but I know next to nothing about them other than they look really cool.

Does anyone have any or would they like to share any knowledge?

I'd poke my eye out if I tried to light my cigar with that(those)!

Hi Tim. Disallowing Pat's quest for fire(rumour has it he lost a toenail in the ensuing inferno), you might want to look at Dunhills. Now, when you look, please be prepared with smelling salts. Dunhill lighters are ridiculously priced. Think HUNDREDS of dollars on past 1k. Same with Davidoff. I don't know how long they go back but I currently own a Corona Old Boy from Savinelli. A splendid lighter with the 45 degree flame for lighting pipes. It was not pocket change at $85 but it will easily last a lifetime. One thing my salesman told me and I am completely convinced of is that mechanical flint lighters are the way to go. Oh, there are beautiful electronic ignition torches out there and they are splendid. But if my Old Boy breaks a flint, I simply replace it and go on. Also, if you get a butane lighter use good fuel like Corona and their flints too. They are not that expensive. One last thing. I spoke to a few gents at the KC pipe show a few years ago and they told me that lighterAD is about as severe as all our other ADs so there. You are forewarned.

    Regards, Todd

I don't have time to look right now, but I have a knock off of the Old Boy pictured above that I got from a pipe site - I have been very happy with it. It's definitely not as well-made as the real thing, but quite functional. I think it was around 30 dollars.

Thank you Scorpion. Yes, they are beautiful. I wanted the model that had briar wood surrounding the lighter. Man are they gorgeous. They cost about $140 and are actually prone to staining with hand oils. The chrome beauty I bought is built like a tank and should provide decades of usage.

I'd actually like to learn more about the vintage crystal tabletop cigar lighters that I have seen at the random yard sale but never purchased.

For old time pipe lighting, I prefer my Beattie Jet lighter. Fiberglass wick and it uses regular lighter fuel (naptha). 90 degree self-generating flame. The ultimate for lighter geeks! Just don't point it the wrong way when lighting (especially if wearing long sleeves).
