I use Proraso year round but I guess the menthol cooling is perfect for a warm summer day.
Zackly. Proraso followed by Osage Rub would be a little chilly on a cold Chicago winter morning. I do know guys who use it every day year-round, though. There is no reason not to, if you like it. I tend to use it more in warmer weather.
As for fall/winter stuff, wow. Waht a YMMV-loaded question. You just have to try stuff and see what you like, both scent preferences and skin reactions are incredibly personal. Tabac is a huge fall/winter favorite for many of us, but it seems you either love it or hate it, there is not much middle ground with that one. Generally, earthier, woodsier scents tend to be popular in the fall/winter. A small tube of C.O. Bigelow (same thing, made by Proraso) is my normal travel cream regardless of weather).
I find I like Queen Charlotte Green Irish Tweed a lot, it is one of my faves. The nice thing about QC is they have a ton of scents and it works great-right up there with the very best in terms of slickness, and you can get a sampler of several of their scents. I'd start there.

Matt is running a sale, now, too. Get ten! If you don't find a fall/winter scent out of ten of his creams, I'll eat my hat.
Here is how to lather the samples.

Nothing like a Proraso Green Tub shave with a splash of Floid Blue to wake you up in the morning. Makes no difference if it's 100+ degrees or -10 degrees. Well, maybe a little difference.![]()
Still taking nourishment and breathing.
Anything sandalwood could be perfect for winter.

My favorite combination on a warm Texas morning is Proraso Green Tub soap or Bigelow cream followed by either Barbasol Pacific Rush or Aqua Velva Ice Blue. I'll use the Pacific Rush if I REALLY need a kick-start in the morning.
Since it rarely gets to be REALLY cold here, I'll use those combinations year round based on how I feel that particular morning more than what the outside temps are on a given day.
Cheers!
On cold, gray wintery days, I want something that smells "tropical", or citrus-y. J.M.Frasers does that job nicely.
Most of the time though, it's my green tub of Proraso.
When it's really hot and muggy, there's nothing more refreshing than Proraso and the Rub!
Menthol products are splendid for me on summer mornings.
During the colder weather, I can use pretty much anything that doesn't containg menthol, but coconut, almond and sandalwood are my faves.

An excellent choice for winter would be Cella.
