Thanks for letting us know to stay away from RE. Helpful for newbies such as myself.

I just realized this is Razor Emporium the OP is talking about.
I thought it was Reliable Electroplating, which is why I suggested giving them a chance. My BAD.

I don't think RE is the best way to refer to this particular establishment.

That is just an awful job...I now see why they are a banned vendor on this site. I don't think that any of my un-restored razors looks that bad, and one only cost me $9.00, shipped.

New plating alone won't fix the pitting. The shoddy "revamp" service is to blame here...

Every time I see them referred to as RE I about have a heart attack as well. Reliable has done great work. Thank goodness it wasn't them.

this is a # 15 (it was rhodium after the hatchet job)............We are all learning why the B&B mods make good judgement calls and decisions to help us members. I know many members always critize them I always defend them and this is the reason why. The Raz/ Empor is a banned member for a valid reason. I am sure that you have read the past bad experiences from other members pertaining to Raz/Emp. Now you are a living example of another Raz/Emp bad experience. I do hope that you can resolve this through your credit card company or Paypal. Keep us posted Huck.

That is my fault, I started that last month while trying not to discriminate, but at this time i think i will refer to them as Raz/Empor...Reliable Plating is a good honest company that has not caused any bad experiences to B&B memmbers such as the Raz/Empor has.

And I was thinking of sending my Gillette NEW for a razor revamp, considering it's my wife's grandfather's and a family heirloom I think I'll pass on Raz/Emp and contact RE or find a local outfit.

Wow. So sorry your brit got ruined, man. I hope they will fix it, or at least, give you a partial refund. They should never have sent it back to you that way.

I fail to comprehend how they could even send that back to you unashamedly. To have even bothered to send it back without telling you in advance that they messed it up and are willing to cover all costs to see to it that you get some kind of recompense speaks wonders about their complete divorcement of any minimum of business ethics.

    A real bummer here.

I have read about all the horror stories regarding Razor Emporium. I don't think anyone should refer to them as RE or Raz/empor. I think everyone should refer to them as Razor Emporium...it will make it clear to every member here who they should never even consider doing business with, avoid potentially dragging the other vendors through the mud, and, perhaps most importantly, will help identify this terrible place on Google searches and the like.

Being the engineering skeptic here, how do you actually know that the parts that were returned assembled as "your" razor were't swapped out with another razor during perhaps a "batch" run for re-plating? I don't mean to pile on here, because I do feel extremely bad for your experience, but personally, I don't believe I would send my razor to anyone but a plating shop where I know they would not have the additional parts available to make a "swap out" for my original razor parts. Because of this issue I am probably looking into a Caswell plating kit when my funds become more available.

To further the ignorance of this vendor, they are advertising a gold fat-handled Tech as a 1930's model with a base plate having rectangular slots. Owning (and really liking) several Techs from that era, which Gillette only produced from late 1938-on, the early Techs had somewhat triangular-shaped slots in the base plate. They seem to be oblivious toward Gillette history.

razor emporium is in bad graces due to poor service and poor customer relations right now.this is not the first thread this year describing trouble with them.

Let me just play the Devil's adocate for a minute. I have read alot of negative comments on the forum regarding Razor emporioum, but that being said...I would like to see the "Before" pic before we are all so quick to judge.

Without trying to come off as a jerk, the truth is crap in, crap out....if they were sent a razor with severe pitting, there is only so much anone can do. I read a thread last week from a replate from one our recommended vendors....guess what...the razor had some pitting on it before and it had pitting after the plating. There is only so much anyone can do if a Razor is in terrrible shape. You can't sand beyond a certain paoint without destoying the metal completely.

Persoanlly, I would never send in a razor for replating unless it was in very good shape, but thats me....or I would take all the prep work into my own hand and send them a product that was well suited for a replate.

What I think the issue here isn't that of "shoddy "revamp", but shoddy communication. The Vendor should have had multiple converations and clearly explained what could be done, and what couldn't...and then left it in the buyers had on what he wanted to do....then there wouldnt be an issue...the buyer would have had clear expecations on the condition of his razor...

I agree with this. There seems to be a lot of piling-on going on here. I have a razor out to them for replating, and I will be sure to post the results of my experience. In this case, without the "before" pic, we have nothing but hearsay going on here.

In response to both bluesbishop & ieschwoch I wish I did have a "before" pic because then I could show the razor was in not bad shape to begin with. This isn't my first rodeo and I've had other razors replated to my satisfaction and I've also been ripped off before as well. As far as "hearsay" is concerned the razor was in decent shape without all the pitting to start with as I was going to sell it on the BST before I decided to go with the refinishing and keep it in my collection. I've sent it back to the Razor Emporium as they stated they'd like to redo the razor and also apologized for the "sub standard work" (their words to me in emailing back & forth). So hopefully it will all end well.

Don't worry, I'm not accusing you of misrepresenting your case. I apologize if I gave that impression. My only thought was that it's tough to know what precise condition the original razor was in by words alone. I'm glad that Razor Emporium is working with you on this and I hope it is resolved well.
