I have the muhle and have not had any other synthetics yet but I do agree that the muhle bristles are very stiff. I have to hold the bristles like I am painting in order to put the lather on my face.It does make a decent lather but it is very coarse. After one and 1/2 weeks I have gone through half of my soap. I don't know if it is my technique or the fact that the bristles are so coarse.

That's down to your technique. I don't know how you've made lather, but whether synthetics or not, you load up your brush with soap, and then work it into lather somewhere else (face, palm, bowl, mug, etc.), if you've used up half a soap (although I guess it depends on the soap you're using) in a week and a half, then I think you're using too much.

I was looking at it yesterday. It just looks like I have used that much. Because the center is starting to hollow out it looks like more is gone than actually is. I compared it to my wifes that she uses for her legs and mine isn't much smaller. Hers was used once.

Edit: Thanks for the advice on technique. I haven't tried to lather in a seperate bowl. I am going to try that. That should save on the soap too.

    Thanks

What is mentioned in the How to make great lather from a soap ~ Tutorial also goes for synthetics. And you don't need an expensive bowl, almost any old bowl will do.

Tried the bowl thing last night. WOW. What was I thinking. You know I read those tutorials but when it came to actual shaving that step got lost somewhere. That works great. I was trying to lathe in the soap bowl. DUH.
